Little Girls’ Room Reveal

March 21, 2019 by Bethany Sy

It feels AMAZING to check our little girls room off the proverbial list. Knowing that my kids have a peaceful (and gorgeous) sanctuary to escape the chaos of renovation makes me so happy. And it makes them happy too!

To think I was stumped with how to decorate their room a few months back!

*This post is sponsored by our friends at MODSY! Thank you for supporting the fabulous brands that make Reality Daydream possible! This post contains affiliate links.*

I was so grateful that MODSY swooped in and helped me with room layout ideas. Their professional interior designers gave me this floorplan idea (computer rendering below) giving me the idea to put the triple bunk on that top wall rather than facing the other way the wall to the left… which in my mind was the only obvious place to put it. Haha! (it’s hard to see where the windows are below)

For those of you that are wondering, the way this whole MODSY thing works…

You’ve got a room that you’re stumped on. Maybe you’re not sure how to layout furniture? Or you and your spouse are having a hard time figuring out how to combine your design styles? Or your room is just such a tragedy and you don’t even know where to start?

We pulled up the carpet and had the whole 2nd floor’s hardwoods refinished. Then we removed all 3 layers of wallpaper in this room and primed it white. What a difference already!

Since the girls all agreed that they wanted a ‘rainbow room’, I set out to design a room that was tastefully colorful without having painted stripes of ROYGBIV on the walls.

I started by finding this fabulous rug that checks off both boxes of ‘colorful’ AND ‘chic’. Don’t you love how it kinda looks like an abstract watercolor painting?!

After we filled out MODSY’s “Style Quiz”, we let them know that this rug is the inspiration for the room. We also shared a few things that we wanted them to incorporate, like the triple bunk, the orange chair, this shelf, our wooden rainbow art, and the SW Meander Blue wall color.

They came back with the most FABULOUS room design! (the following pics are angles of the room as if you’re standing in the room and turning left)

Isn’t it so amazing how they were able to recreate our existing pieces into their design? And it looks SO REAL!

And I have a code for you to get 20% off their services at the end of this post, so keep reading!

We wasted no time getting started… painting the walls, and assembling the triple bunk. The girls were so pumped!

I made them some rounded Upholstered Headboards using vintage tablecloths. I love how it gives the bunkbed a custom look, and the girls love how soft it is on their noggins! We also adoree the Beddy’s Zipper Bedding.

We really liked the circle shelves that MODSY suggested in their design, but not the price-tag, so we decided to build them! Tutorial for those here!

The little wicker table I found on our local Facebook Marketplace, and the chairs we built… tutorial here. We really need to build a 3rd one now that we have three kiddos that love to color and craft!

Having the orange chair in this room is JUST SO NOSTALGIC. If you’re relatively new to our little corner of the internet, I’ll tell you that this chair has soooo much sentimental value to us! I took the twins’ pictures in this chair every week for the first year of their life, and every month for the second year. And I still take their pics in it even now each year on their birthday. They aren’t going to fit for much longer! 😉

The chandy on the ceiling is by Corbett Lighting, and is called the ‘Dolce. And the pendant light above the orange chair was made by my Aunt Sue using wood veneer! I LOVE it.

Nick built this 3-tier shelving unit awhile back, and it fit so perfectly in this space! And the oval mirror is from a local antique store.

AND FINALLY! This next thing might be my favorite element in the room… besides the sentimental orange chair obviously.

This dresser started out a 3 little unfinished dressers from IKEA (the RAST dressers) and we grafted them together with our skillz. Don’t worry, there’s a tutorial HERE!

It feels so good to have this room done! And believe it or not, the girls do a pretty good job keeping it clean. IT’S A MIRACLE!

UPDATE! We added blinds that are MOTORIZED (and blackout!) from Select Blinds, and we’re so obsessed. These are the exact ones we got:

Below is a master list of everything we purchased and made for this room! If it’s not listed, it means we bought it second-hand. (sorry!)
