Squeezing in some small projects and crafty things is my saving grace right now in the midst of the renovation and living between two houses. I recently found the ‘unfinished wood’ section at my local craft store, and I’M SO INTO IT. Sure, most of those things I could make with my own two hands. But sometimes I don’t want to go spend an afternoon turning a candlestick on my lathe, just to turn around and paint it with an amazing gradient technique. I’d much rather spend a few bucks and just buy some pre-made ones that I can avoid the sawdust and just start throwing paint around.

I’ll tell ya that Amazon has a pretty awesome selection of unfinished wooden candlesticks (here) too, and many of them are even more affordable than the ones at the craft store.
I recently found out about a new spray paint that I just HAD TO TRY. It’s called COLORSHOT, and it comes in the most amazing colors, with names like Wine Stain, Mermaid, First Million, Extra Guacamole, and Vintage Lace. From the same folks that make this stuff!
I ordered a few of my faves and rejoiced when my happy mail arrived! There’s nothing more fun for me than experimenting with new, fabulous products!
And this came at a perfect time, because I needed some color in my life after painting my kitchen cabinets the color of sadness.

My second thought (after obsessing over the colors) is the fact that these cans are a bit skinnier than most standard spray paint bottles and is SO MUCH more comfortable to grip. It’s like a hairspray bottle, y’all. And you can find them exclusively at Joann’s stores!
After giving these unfinished candlesticks a light sanding with some 220 grit, I hit em with COLORSHOT White Primer!
Let it be known that COLORSHOT spray paint has the most perfect mist that flows out. I can’t explain it. It’s one of those things that you just have to experience. And the coverage is incredible.
In the picture above, I flipped my candlesticks upside down and and painted the bottom (which is actually the top) one-third with Skinny Dip. Which is such a perfect shade of blush pink.
Next, I grabbed ‘Island Girl’ which is the lighter of the two teal shades I got. I started misting right in the middle of the candle stick, allowing it to fully cover the middle section, but just lightly mist over where I had painted with Skinny Dip. (don’t you just LOVE THESE NAMES?)
I grab the candle holder by the part that’s still unfinished, and flip it over. It’s easier to spray down at the ‘base’ than try to spray up under an edge that you can’t see.
I started spray painting at the outer base and then feathered it up from there until it just seamlessly blended with the lighter teal. It sounds tricky, but this stuff is so easy to control. You can make it do whatever you want it to do! And there aren’t random chunks that come flying out like every other spray paint brand in the world.
And, now that we have the candlestick right side up again, we can paint that top side with Skinny Dip to finish this baby off!
It left such a flawless finish and perfect ombre treatment. And I love that it dries to the touch in 10 minutes too!
I promptly did the other two candle sticks. Wine Stain, Cosmo, Cheers, and Extra Avocado.
And popped some candles in them. I DIE.
Are you SO ON BOARD WITH THIS? I know that you are.
Now I’m walking around my house(s) giving all my belongings the side eye. Nothing is safe! I grabbed this hanging planter right off the wall and took it outside and painted it. The whole thing was done in 20 minutes. (tutorial for how to make this planter here)
Oh, and COLORSHOT has sealers too! They have a matte finish, as well as a glossy. I use both, depending on the application. So I love having options!
And I officially want the full line of their colors in my arsenal. ASAP.
Now tell me, what things are you eyeing in your house that need a shot of color? I dare you!

So are the candlesticks fireproof after painting? What would happen after the candles burned down or are these for show?
Love what you have done!!! Would you choose this paint to paint a kitchen aid or the kind you used in your original post?? I’ve bought the paint to paint mine but haven’t taken the plunge. Now I’m second guessing if I should use this kind instead. Thoughts ???
Lisa, that is BRILLIANT! YES I would absolutely use these spray paints on my Kitchen Aid mixer. That would look awwwwwwesome. As long as you still follow the instructions to the letter, it should be perfect.
NOT!
These colourshot spray paints look amazing and your candlesticks and planter. Loving the pretty colours and their names ‘of course’ 🙂 Do you know if they sell these in other countries i.e. United Kingdom and Spain?
I think my tired piano needs a makeover. Maybe my file cabinets, too!
