Papasan Chair frame turned Canopy over Bed!

November 23, 2016 by Bethany Sy

There aren’t many ‘original’ ideas out there these days, but this Papasan-Chair-turned-Little-Girls-Canopy goes down as one of my favorite ORIGINAL ideas… that came straight from the depths of my complex brain. Do you remember how we chopped the papasan frame in half and made this darling ‘Reading Nook’ canopy in the twins’ room?

And I happen to know that other people like this idea as well, because it’s been pinned over 100k times on Pinterest. Which is insane!

Fast forward to now… and the girls have outgrown their Fainting Couch beds, and upgraded to a full-size bed, and we saved one of the fainting couch beds for Cypress to use eventually (we’re keeping her confined to the crib for absolutely AS LONG as possible). So the fainting couch bed is under the canopy and this is what their room has been looking like lately.

I mean, having the little fainting couch toddler bed under the papasan canopy is pretty cute and all. BUT.

BUT!

Let’s back up… recall for a moment how I was struggling with what to do for a headboard for the girls full-size bed. I still love the stenciled herringbone accent wall (and the girls do too!), so I wanted a headboard that wouldn’t ‘fight’ with it. Or cover it up too much.

I’ve been wrestling with this problem for several months. Untillll…. I realized that the canopy would be AMAZING above their bed. So we moved that sucker (attached with three little L-brackets).

And we slapped the mosquito net and ruffles back on… and BOOM.

I can’t decide if I want to leave the starburst mirror in place under the canopy, or just remove it altogether. Do you have an opinion?

I love the ‘grand’ feeling it gives the bed as the focal point of the room… without covering up that accent wall too much!

I’m also obsessed with their new bedding. Have you heard of Beddys? It’s beautiful bedding for kids (or adults!) that has AN ACTUAL ZIPPER on the sides to zip it up to ‘make the bed’ each morning. It’s pretty groundbreaking actually. And it’s SO SOFT. I had been looking for cute bedding for the girls for quite awhile, so when the folks at Beddys were willing to send us their product to try, I was so on board.

Beddys is having a big ol’ sale going on right now too, so be sure to enter the coupon code BLACKFRIDAY25 to get 25% off your order!

The girls love their room. I love their room. Win WIN!

OMG, so happy to see this project! I just picked up a great papasan chair base for free (crazy the things people just want to toss out) and this is such a brilliant way to repurpose it. Happy to come across this blogpost, thanks for posting this!

A reading nook (which encourages a love of reading). Plus, it’s homemade with love and materials that would be discarded and otherwise filling up landfills. LOVE THIS.
