Below are some of our mostfavoritest projects. (You’ll see in a second why it’s black and white…)
I pride myself on thinking outside the box and not being trendy. And when Allison from House of Hepworths asked me to choose a handful of my favorite projects for my guest post, I realized just how many projects we’ve done have been from the turquoise/teal/aqua family… you get it. I made a little collage to demonstrate this chronic problem.
Time for an intervention?
My name is Beth, and I’m an turquoise-addict.
I mean, if you look at our furniture tab, or our tutorials tab you know that we do in fact use a wide variety of colors for our various endeavors. But this excessive use of one color is unacceptable! I’m so mad at myself! How dare I abuse my turquoise privileges?
And SO:
This is my solemn vow to try my gosh-darndest to avoid all shades of turquoise for a time. I’m thinking of it as a ‘color cleanse’…
{source}
I like using aqua as an accent color, and 10 of those items on the collage are actually things that live in my house. But I need to start moving on I think.
Keep me accountable, will you?
And now, because I know some of you will ask… here are the links to the projects above. Each button is clickable, and in no particular order.
I’m not really sure that this is a New Years Resolution, but it’s a resolution of sorts.
Are there any design ruts that you’ve gotten yourself into without realizing it till later? Do you have a subconscious favorite color? Do you love teal/aqua/turquoise as much as I apparently do? Let’s be design trend-SETTERS together this year!

I love Teal/turquoise/aqua too! I don’t have much as far as furnishings but I did receive my new Kitchenaid mixer for Christmas and it is the aqua color. Maybe when I finally get my own place again, the aqua mixer will help me from going crazy with the turquoise.
I love your blog by the way! So much inspiration in many different ways 🙂

Noooooooo! I am a teal/turquoise fanatic! I say nay to the color cleanse!

I love turquoise too. I feel like I have the same problem… in fact, I followed your link and ordered the same Turquoise Damask print for my little boy’s nursery drapes. It really is FABULOUS fabric. I also followed your tutorial and did some refinishing of a dresser and painted it turquoise and then glazed it.

This past week we said goodbye to our dresser (because I’m trying to go with more neutral colors and just have color pops or accent colors) and I’m so sad about it. I do think turquoise is totally in right now, so that’s a bonus! And I also agree that it helps the whole home come together and flow.
Also – as a side note, I referred my friend months back to your blog after she had been struggling with infertility. Her and her husband were able to successfully save up money and do IVF this summer and found out they were pregnant in July. Guess what they were expecting: twin girls!!! She just gave birth to them this past week at 27 weeks. They are 2.5lbs each and in the NICU, but doing well. Like your girls, they are little miracles!
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
Wow your teal dresser is so awesome! I bet you didn’t have any trouble selling THAT!
Congrats to your friend and her new twin girls! I love me a success story! The NICU is no fun, but they’ll be home before too long, and it’s all up hill from there! 🙂

Don’t be too hard on yourself- if you have hits of the same color family throughout your home it just means your design will flow nicely room to room, right? Love reading!

I love that you are trying to stop over using teals…. And then pick a pretty tealish blue for the eye color too!!!!

It’s okay, I love the color green an unhealthy amount. Just about everything I do is in some shade of green. Every room in our house has green in the color scheme, I did this on purpose though. I want to be able to move my decore around without worrying if it matches or not.
Turquoise is a great color, I wish I could convince my (color blind) husband of this.
I love your blog by the way.

I love turquoise! There is turquoise in every room in my house, even in my gray, black and red bedroom, I have a turquoise dresser and wooden hamper . I think it is the perfect accent color. Cobalt is really pretty, too-anything in the blue family really.

I would have guessed they all turned out orange! You are so brave with that color. Maybe teal simply ended up on the projects that were the coolest/biggest transformations… Maybe you do like it best, but that’s no reason to cleanse. (Seriously, was your second favorite collage predominately orange?)
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
I would say orange is definitely our second most utilized color. I would make a collage for that one too if it wasn’t so time consuming to look through old posts. 🙂 AND, because I refuse to give up my beloved orange!!
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
(talk about addiction!)
Beth Willmore says
There is NEVER too much turquoise! I vote that you don’t need to do a color cleanse, but it was fun seeing those projects and I’m thinking how good all that stuff would look in my house! 🙂
Stephanie says
Teal is my favorite color… maybe that is why I am so addicted to your blog! Right now it is mostly in my clothes but when I actually get to work on my office some day it will have a palette like this. My blog is totally teal and I love it.
Jodi S says
hey, at least you have good color taste 😉
Amanda says
I love, love, love turquoise, especially paired with lime green. They’re the color accents in our living room, and I’ll be using them again in our study. I also worked turquoise into our master bathroom and half bath. And our kitchen is lime green. I figure I’m just on the “whole house color palette” bandwagon. 🙂
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
P.S. I just looked down and realized my sweatpants are turquoise… FAIL!
Kenz @ Interiors by Kenz says
Lol, this is hilarious. I think I’m a grey addict. Which is much more boring than teal. But if I were you, I wouldn’t be too hard on yourself. While the color IS trendy, your projects are NOT. You are very out of the box with the things you create. So don’t you worry your pretty litlte head.
Renee says
Ok, so you are addicted to turquoise. Get over it. Let’s try getting addicted to orange instead! You can add turquoise accents if you want. Just a suggestion.
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
Funny that you suggest orange… that’s my self-professed favorite color! And a close second for excessive usage. I’m just going to try to incorporate colors that no one would ever think of to break away from old habits! 🙂
Jennifer Cabral says
Me too, me too!! I also have turquoise colored jewelry and clothes. I say you use it all you want!! Wait til I send you pics of my kitchen, the walls are aqua. Lol!
Diane says
I have a turquoise addiction too! In my opinion its the best accent color. Cool and relaxing! I am in the middle of re-designing a mirror into a chalkboard and I just made some turquoise accent pillows for our bedroom! Sigh. I’ll join the color cleanse with you…..after my chalkboard is done! 😉
