I know that my decorating style isn’t exactly ‘traditional’. It’s sort of an obnoxious mix of Mid-Century Modern, boho, eclectic mish-mash. It’s mine, and I love it.
And in the weeks and months since we bought our ‘new’ historic home, there are a TON of people that are concerned about how I’m going to switch my style to match the style of this home.
BETHANY, HOW WILL YOU HONOR AND EMBRACE THE INTRICATE MOLDING AND ELEGANT CURVY STAIRCASE?!
Since there are people out there that are losing sleep over this, I’m here to set the record straight.
I feel strongly that your home should represent YOU and YOUR design style! And since this is no longer the 80’s, we can mix styles to our heart’s content and still rock it!
It’s fascinating to me that people see ornate trim and chunky crown molding, and instantly think it needs to be furnished with romantic Victorian-era crushed-velvet fainting couches, and thick damask-patterned upholstery fabric curtains straight out of Downton Abbey.
So I’m going to drop a ton of images below that are gorgeous and inspirational examples of how this style of home can be incorporated with any style! Let there be color! Let there be pattern! LET THERE BE PERSONALITY!
Soooooo gorgeous, right? If you HAD to pick a fave from the pictures above, which one would you choose?
I love every one of these for different reasons. But if you held me at gunpoint and made me pick one, I would choose this one.
Who would think to put mauve and navy together?! I want to be friends with that person!
