Dudes and dudettes… THANK YOU for granting me privileges to take a last-minute leave of absence. I needed it somethin’ fierce. Now that I’m feeling refreshed and well-rested (ish), you can expect me to be at the top of my game. At least for the remainder of this week.
Ok, I can commit to TODAY for sure.
I enjoyed the break, but it’s also nice to be back! You deserve an update at the very least… and that’s exactly what you’re gonna get. (if you follow on instagram… you’ll find you’re pretty up to speed!)
We failed miserably in our attempt to switch the twinkies from two naps to one. As in, except for ONE DAY (when they took a 4 hour nap) they couldn’t hold out past 9:30 in the morning without needing to crash. And that’s a guaranteed need for a second nap, folks. True, there’s nothing wrong with two naps… but there IS something wrong with the girlfriends throwing a party in the crib for TWO HOURS every night before they finally drop. I think instead of trying to switch them to one nap… we need to invest in some hefty black-out curtains, and a video monitor.
Nick celebrated his 31st birthday on Sunday. There was monkey bread involved, and I got him a new shirt similar to his fave. Cause I got tired of him wearing the same shirt. He chose to celebrate the big 3-1 by mowing all day. And then we had some family out to grill for supper, which ended as quickly as it started when tornado’s started rolling in. Our hearts are heavy for those affected by weather-related tragedy this week. I’m still struggling to process it all.
On Nick’s birthday, his sister Sarah birthed a sweet baby boy to share his birthday with him. Payton James. We can’t wait to meet him in a couple weeks!
My headaches have subsided (THANK GOD!) but my back still hurts like the fires of hell. Thanks to all of you who have suggested remedies. I’m seeing my Dr and taking it easy, and every so often I take some powerful drugs.
We Nick got our garden planted. There’s been LOTS of mowing. The kittens have all found homes. We’ve been soaking up the sunshine, letting the girls run free in the yard (free-range toddlers?). They love exploring, swinging, sliding, looking for kitties, and helping plant the garden. They aren’t afraid of bugs, and don’t mind dirt between their toes.
I’ve been installing the backsplash in the bathroom, and… AS USUAL, it’s taking about 10x longer than I planned. But it looks freaking amazing, and no you may not see a sneak preview.
But you CAN see a preview of this incredibly intricate plaque of Louisiana that I skillfully cut with my scroll saw for a client on our Etsy Shop. It was time consuming, but it looks impressive… right? Wielding power tools makes me feel pretty bad-ass.
Speaking of our Etsy Shop, we’re getting ready to launch a new item! It’s an idea that I came up with myself, and I’m really excited to share it with you tomorrow… along with a tutorial!

keep your lovely curtains.I made a simple window blanket. Just get some great duck canvas and velcro with Adhesive backing. Sew the blanket to fit, attatch with velcro. This is what saved my sanity!
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
Ummmm… that’s a GENIUS idea. Never even thought of velcro! What is ‘duck canvas’? Can I get it anywhere that has fabric?

Do you use frog tape while painting the sides?
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
Nope! I just used my eyeballs and a steady hand. But frog tape isn’t a bad idea!

Are they still in one crib? That’s going to be a hard habit to break-and may be one reason they are partying it up into the wee hours, LOL.
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
You’re right! And we’re tried splitting them up… and while they DO fall asleep faster when separated, the sleep TERRIBLY and wake up super early. You win some and lose some I guess! 🙂

The two-three age is so much about growth-brain and body-it’s a tough one. By four ( usually the even numbered years are more stable, weird huh?) that stuff is mostly all sorted out.
My daughter was a champion napper(at 27, she still naps, LOL) but her twin brother gave THAT nonsense up at the age of three. Yes, he’s still a night owl who needs less sleep than his sister.

So glad to see you’re back…and OMG…I love the Louisiana!!! I can’t wait to see it in person…and so glad it was worthy of the blog…no you know you can tackle ANY state if you can do LA!!!
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
It was super fun Jenni! One of my faves for sure. I’ve been WAITING for someone to ask for orange (my favorite color!) I agree… it looks kinda awesome. I’m going to tackle the Harley logo tonight, seal ‘er down in the morning… and I’ll be DONE! Although now I’m working on Texas too. 🙂
Me thinks the HARDEST state to do would be Hawaii.

Ooo whatever happened to Turquoise being your fav color 😀
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
Orange has forever been my favorite color… which was why I was so surprised when I looked back and realized how many things I had done in Turquoise! I do love turquoise too though. Second to orange. 🙂

haha “Free range toddlers.” I think deep down you are wanting chickens 🙂
I’m glad your break was good. I’m happy you’re back. I’m getting really anxious to see your backsplash. If there’s one thing I know, you do NOT mess around when it comes to back splashes. Sorry about your back! I wish I could come and share treats with you.
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
I can tell you one thing… REUBEN wants chickens. In his belly!
What kind of ‘treats’ are we talking about? Maybe you ought to fly your aircraft over here and we can munch together. 🙂

As usual, you and the girls made me smile!! They are just so darned cute. My baby sisters are 1 1/2 years apart and they remind me so much of them when they were littles. Good time!
Free range toddlers…I know where you heard that!!! Lol!!
Good to see you again!
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
I use ‘Free Range Toddlers’ in a sentence now at least 17 times a day. It’s a part of my regular vocabulary! 🙂

I missed you, mama friend!! 🙂 Hang in there with the naps, they’ll figure it out. Black out curtains are a great idea.
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
I just hate to get rid of their pretty turquoise damask curtains in the nursery! But at this point, I’m not really caring WHAT their nursery looks like. 🙂 Actually the last two nights have been going a little better, so we’ll see. I’m learning that ‘everything is a phase’.

Why not make/install blackout roman blinds behind the curtains (coordinating, of course) then you can have them down just during naps.
