I know a lot of you readers have been around our little blog for yearrrrs and watched these girls grow up. These lucky ladies have so many Aunties all over the world that love them and have watched them grown!
Della wanted an ‘owl cake’ and Paisley wanted a ‘pony cake’. These were my best attempts. One cake mix, two cakes! Booya!
The girls have to share a LOT of things, but I figure the least I can do is make them their own birthday cake. They legitimately start brainstorming what kind of cake they want as soon as Christmas is over, so I’ve been hearing about it for many months now.
It so happened that we got invited to go swimming with the girls’ little friend Cael on their birthday… and I’m pretty sure that was their favorite present. Also, would you look at that gorgeous Iowa landscape?!
It was just an all around fun day, filled with love, presents, bike rides, legos, and balloons.
The next day was Saturday, and we had a little Birthday party with a handful of the girls’ friends. Everyone gathered at Messy MIssy’s for some painting! It’s one of those darling little shops that has tons of ceramic figures to choose from and paint / glaze. Then they fire them in a kiln for you to pick them up later! All the kids had a blast painting their little figures.
These girls of mine are painting enthusiasts (where do they get it?!), and this was the birthday party of their dreams. I even made them a cake that looks like a ‘painters palate’ for their party. They helped with the ‘globs of paint’. And no, I didn’t make two cakes for their party.
Each year around the girls’ Birthday, we take their picture by their willow tree. It’s always fun to see how much they (and the trees!) in just a year. And just such a fun tradition. Here’s the progression of the past 5 years of ‘Willow Pics’.
5th Birthday
Isn’t that wild to see how fast things can change in just a couple years? I laugh at how Della is squinting or looking away in every picture. Girlfriend has eyes that are SO sensitive to the bright sun… which is weird, because her eyes are brown and Paisley’s eyes are light blue. I thought the light-eyed people had more sensitive eyes??
These girls have changed our lives in so many amazing ways, and have taught us what love truly is. We know we’re one of the LUCKY ones to have such joy in our lives.
I pulled the girls aside individually on their birthday and had them answer a series of questions… because it’s always fun to look back on and see what silly things they said over the years!
We’re so blessed!
Happy 5th Birthday sweet girls!

This post was so much fun to read. I remember being so moved by your “we’re pregnant” video. You certainly are blessed. Those cakes you made were fantastic. Happy Birthday to P & A. Vikki in VA.
My daughter and I came across your blog when she had her girls who are just 6 months younger than P & A. We found you through Pinterest when you posted the TwinZ pillow (which we still use). We’ve been faithful readers ever since! It’s so fun to see your girls grow and see what we have to look forward to with our little angels.Happy Birthday girls!
Awwww twin girls are the BEST, right?! I just passed down my Twin-Z pillow to a friend that’s having twin girls in the next few weeks. Best invention ever right?!
PS you have an “Adam and Eve” ad running on the right side that I wonder if you actually want to be running…it’s definitely risqué…
Ohhhhh my, I’m going to look into that. Is ‘Adam and Eve’ a company? I need to get rid of that garbage! If yous see it again, please screenshot!
Yes, it looked to be a company selling lingerie and other accessories. I don’t see it this time.
Something you might like for the girls is the Q&A a Day Journal for kids- it’s on Amazon. There is a kids version in which they answer a question a day- and repeat for three years- so you can see how their answers change from year to year.
I’ve been reading since before they were born 🙂
I’m heading over to Amazon to look into that now… sound right up our alley! 🙂 Thanks for the suggestion!
I haven’t been following you since the beginning but the girls were pretty little when I stumbled across your blog! We were having fertility issues and eventually went on to have our little boy via IVF last year and reading your blog and watching your girls grow (Cypress included) really helped me feel positive about the whole situation. So thank you for that and happy birthday to the gorgeous girls.
Awwwww YES… congrats on your sweet boy! And thanks for following along on this journey of ours. 🙂
