If you’ve been following along on our kitchen journey in our Instagram Stories (we’re @RealityDaydream!) you know we’ve been plugging away and continuing to make progress!
It’s been almost a year since we demoed the old kitchen and started this whole journey, and 6 months since we moved here from our acreage and have been living without a kitchen.
On our last update, we left you with this gem of a photo… celebrating a heated kitchen.

In the above pic, you can see the masking tape on the floor outlining where the island will be, as well as the cabinets that extend both of those walls with windows.
Kinda like this… but we’ve made some minor changes since this drawing was made, but the general layout is the same:

Anywho! Let’s talk about the progress that’s been going down in our kitchen since our last update in February!
We partnered with Rockwool and used their batt insulation for the ceiling which is made out of volcanic rock and slag. This product is excellent for moisture and fire resistance!

Nick put together a video sharing more details about the benefits of this insulation, as well as installation tips!

At this point, it felt a lot like a fluffy dungeon, but it also felt A LOT LIKE PROGRESS!!!
And finally being at a place where we’re ready to drywall seems like a huuuuuge milestone. My man-child spent many hours on a ladder with his arms in the air making this happen.

I helped a little here and there as the children would allow. But let’s be honest, Nick did it almost entirely by himself.

It was at this point we both realized that we needed a break from life (Puerto Rico!) and a break from the kitchen. So we hired out the drywall mudding, and it was THEEEEE BEST DECISION!!!

Newsflash… just because you’re a DIYer doesn’t mean you have to DIY allll the things. You have do place a value on your time and your tolerance for drywall dust on every surface and in every nook and cranny of your house for all of eternity. In my humble opinion, drywall mudding should always be left to the professionals for everyone’s sanity.

It brought us SO MUCH JOY to pull out our Paint Gun and prime and paint this kitchen white. Finally.

Having such a light and bright space makes our spirits soooo high and hopeful that our kitchen will eventually get there! Someday we’ll actually be washing dishes with running water and be able to grocery shop for more that 4 days at a time since we’ll have a full-size fridge!
I had Paisley do a cartwheel for me to be a visual for my excitement. (if I had done the cartwheel myself, I would have been too injured to help with tiling the floor… which is next!!!!

And here’s a little visual reminder of where we were at the beginning of this post!

We’re so thrilled with the progress, and are pumped to tile the floor next ! (HINT… this tiled floor will be heated!!!
Thanks to all of you for following along with us for this whole kitchen saga, and being so excited right along with us! Remember that all the behind-the-scenes action is happening in real-time over on our Instagram Stories! (we’re @RealityDaydream)
