If you follow our adventures on Instagram (we’re @RealityDaydream!), you know we pulled the trigger on raised garden beds this year! This isn’t our first rodeo with vegetable gardening, but we also aren’t pros. We always learn new things!
This pic was taken at the beginning of the summer.

Welp… let’s just say things grew!
Today we’re going to do a little harvesting with the kiddos, clean up around garden beds with one of our favorite outdoor tools, and plant a fall crop of leafy greens! Who’s ready?!
(Since I know I’ll get asked, these raised garden beds can be purchased here! We love ’em)
We always jump at the opportunity to pull out our STIHL FSA 57 weed trimmer. But before we go any further… what do YOU call it? Weed Wacker? Weed Eater? Whipper Snipper? Any and all of these references are welcome here. Whipper Snipper is my personal favorite. 😉
We love that this guy is lightweight and battery powered! In fact, the AK 10 battery has a run time of up to 20 minutes on a single charge! Perfect for your average homeowner! But I think Nick’s absolute favorite feature is that it has an adjustable shaft to accommodate his freakish height.
I can’t think of a single thing more satisfying than the instant gratification of using a good weed trimmer! (Whipper nipper?)
You can tell this baby gets used a LOT.
We love STIHL products! And this FSA 57 is so perfect for trimming weeds along fence lines, around trees and shrubs, buildings, and sidewalks! This trimmer cuts an 1″ swath, so it’s quick, fun work.
And now it’s time to gather the children and put them to work on this harvest!
After harvest, we cleared one of the raised beds (mostly weeds), and amended the soil for a second crop of spinach and lettuce! We wished we had planted more in the spring anyway, so this felt like the perfect time to plant a fall crop. As my dad would say… many hands make light work!
These cool, late-summer evenings spent outside with the kiddos are my absolute favorite. I hope they look back on these memories with fondness someday!
