Gooooooooooood MORNING!
Nick’s been gone all week on business, and he’s finally home today! So we’re all in great spirits. And the weekend is before us! SUCH a great feeling.
Today, I’m going to show you a little organization that’s been happening in our garage. And let me tell you… it was in DESPERATE NEED.
There are a LOT of things that need to be done organization-wise in our garage, but I needed to start with a little corner that would have my stain, paint, sandpaper, and all those regularly used items to be at my fingertips. We started by painting this grungy cabinet white and putting some handles on it.
You know I love using vertical surfaces for organization (it doesn’t take up ANY ROOM!) based on this, this, and this project, so I was excited to use some of our stash of 3M Clear Mounting Tape to slap some things up on the side of this cabinet to make it functional and visible! After making sure that all surfaces were clean, I applied a white board for notes, a file holder to hold our different grits of sandpaper (my FAVE part by far), and some other little things to make our garage-lives so much more convenient.
And I organized the inside of the cabinet so that all my stain is together, poly, strippers, deglossers, glazes, primers, mineral spirits, etc… so much better! Collective sigh of relief? Thanks for being so invested.
It’s amazing how having an organized space actually PROMOTES creativity. I find myself being drawn to the garage to create again… which is glorious after my very unproductive summer.
Do you guys find that being in an organized space boosts your mood and energy level? The psychology of it is baffling, but I’ glad I realize this about myself. Let the creativity RESUME!

I have to say ditto to your last comment. I had a similar experience last week, it wasn’t something new to me, but something that I had to be reminded about! As busy as I am homeschooling my five children, I decided that my sanity is also important so Mondays are now cleaning and organizing projects days and not school days!

Bethany, thanks for stopping by the store today, it was fun to meet your sweet family! There are so many things to see on your blog. I found your post on homeschooling very interesting. We have 6 children that we have home schooled, our “baby” is finishing up his last 2 years of high school. Appreciate your transparency, we need to do what is right for our family, it’s so easy to get caught in the cookie cutter mentality! Blessings on your family and a healthy pregnancy to you!

I have my scrapbook paper organized why not sandpaper…. DUH! Congrats on the new baby, your girls are adorably sweet. Curious question….do you think they will be over 6′ since hubby is so tall? Our daughter is 6′ 3″ and we are average height,5’7″ and 6′. And she’s only a size 8….model perfect, lol.

I’ve been thinking about an expanding file for all of our sandpapers. That are all over the garage! I also recently organized my spray paints and sample pots by hanging a shoe organizer on a blank spot in the garage. Out of the way, and I can see everything. Hubs even likes it, so bonus points for me!

The file holder as a sandpaper organizer is seriously genius and I totally intend on copying you! Just last night I was rifling through hardware store bags searching for a certain grit and was so frustrated that my hunt ate up 20 minutes of ‘creative time.’ Thanks for the tip!
