My dear lovelies, did you have a pleasant weekend? I do hope so.
I am soooooooooo super excited to announce that we’re LAUNCHING OUR NEW ETSY SHOP TODAY!
This little shop has been my brain child, and I’ve been slowly plugging away and adding new pieces! I’ve been getting down and dirty with my can ‘o stain, and have even been dabbling with a power tool or two!
If you’re wondering about the name ‘SyWoodInk’… the ‘Sy’ is actually the prefix to our last name. Like the ‘Mc’ to McDonald. And since our shop is primarily wooden items, we chose ‘Wood Ink’ because my shading technique is like a wood tattoo. And I just like how it sounds… SyWoodInk.
In an effort to build up some inventory for our grand opening, I created a couple little plaques (10”x14”) using my staining technique. The one on the left is my FAVE.

And we held onto the lily coffee table to have as a part of our inventory as well! This is one of my favorite pieces of furniture we’ve done to date!
We also have these little gems for sale on the shop as well. The profile plaques I made for the girls as newborns are so sentimental and precious to me, and I hope the girls will cherish them some day as well! Tutorial to make your own here!
We’ve done several barnboard signs for friends, family, and a few clients… they’re a great gift because they’re so customizable and versatile! And you can totally make them easily using our wood distressing technique.
You regulars may have noticed a couple items in that top collage that you’re not familiar with here on Sawdust and Embryos. And that’s because IT’S a brand new thing I started making ALL BY MYSELF!
That’s right, I cut these state and country plaques from wood using a scroll saw and my own two hands. NO help from the hubby, start to finish!
Don’t worry, there will be a tutorial coming soon… because you can totally make these for yourself. No need to buy from us! (some salesperson I am, huh?!) So check back later this week for that!
All these items are things you can and should totally DIY for yourself! We’re not suggesting that you buy things from us that you can make on your own. But we know there are some that perhaps don’t have the tools or motivation to create… and that’s OKAY! That’s what our shop is for.
We hope you’ll head over to SyWoodInk and snoop around all the goods! I’m sooo proud of this little endeavor, as it’s something that I’m doing ALL ON MY OWN! Because I know you all have noticed how Nick’s mad skillz have been overshadowing my own as of late. Not that it’s a competition or anything. 🙂
Thanks for being excited with me! And sorry about all the exclamation points today (!!)
I really like your stuff and your blog, however, if Bishops is a family, then it is plural not possessive and doesn’t need an apostrophe. Common grammatical error, I just thought I’d let you know. (Unless it was, Welcome to the Bishop’s house (see, possessive))
it’s gorgeous! you and your husband are so creative and seem like a great team. following from Hawaii!
Awesome shop! I just ordered a state plaque for my husband’s birthday. I know he’ll love it as much as I do!
Beautiful!
You guys are so awesome! I love reading your blog. I think it’s so cool that you still post tutorials for things in your etsy shop. That is very generous of you!
AH! Beth! I LOVE LOVE LOVEEEEEEEE the state plaques! That’s an even better idea than the ones I have seen on Pinterest! I wish I owned a jigsaw…..I see a purchase in my near future!!!!!!
I *am* excited! I think your shop is wonderful. Someday I need to learn to use the scroll saw I own 😉
Do it! 🙂
Happy grand opening! You are SUCH a talented artist. You are the staining master. It’s unreal. The state plaques are so chic. I love them. You’ll have a really easy time when I order my Utah shaped one. You know, since it’s a box with a corner missing 🙂 I’m proud of you for mastering the scroll saw! When I was young my dad did SO much wood working with his scroll saw, and I begged and begged to have one of my own, so when I was in 4th grade I got one for christmas. I still use it every now and then. Not as much as I’d like. But you have inspired me!
Dude Kenz… YOU are inspirational! You (and a few others) were startin to make me feel all inferior-like with your power tool skillz. It’s handy to have a ‘handy hubs’ and all, but I was starting to realize I was using his as a crutch for things I could TOTALLY be doing myself. So thanks for lighting a fire under my butt!
Also, that you got a scroll saw for Christmas in FOURTH GRADE is the best thing I’ve heard evah.
How are your baby chicks?
I just love you. And your shop is A.MAY.ZING! Also, I should dig up a picture from that christmas. I was such a weirdo. 🙂 The baby chicks are growing SO fast!
Love all the new stuff! Been following you forever it seems… Congrats on the new etsy store 🙂
Woohoo!! So cool! Let’s say I wanted to comission a couple of those woodgrain profile plaques for my little ladies at some point. Would I just need to send pics of their profiles?
Yep! All I need is a picture of their profile and their name! If their little babies, you can totally take a pic of them while they’re sleeping. That’s what I did with my girls! 🙂
I want that tree!!!!!!!
I’m in love with everything! You go girl with the scroll saw! I used to use one in the wood shop with my granddaddy it has been years and I know the patience, skill & time it takes 🙂
Oh man, and it’s FUN too, right? I love using the scroll saw. It’s my new fave tool.
The State plaque has been on my DIY to do list forever! Can’t wait for the tutorial!!
Great minds think alike, yo! I’m working on that tutorial, and should have it up tomorrow or the next day… YAY!
Happy for you, I’ll check it out right now. Mary in NY
Oh. My. WORD. I LOOOOOVE the state plaques!!! Pretty sure I’m going to be commissioning one of those very soon! Happy for you!
