In the Bedroom

November 24, 2010 by Bethany Sy

Among other things, I’ve been thinking a lot about freshening things up in the bedroom (no, not like that). It’s become painfully obvious to me that the walls are still BEIGE like they were when we bought the house, and quite frankly, we haven’t done anything to this room except build a fabric tufted headboard.

We are firm believers in the fact that the bedroom should be your sanctuary. An escape. You should love everything about your bedroom.

And as a ground rule, my design philosophy is this:  Find/purchase one “thing” for the room that you love, and design the rest of the room around it. For example, you found a beautiful area rug that has just the right amount of pattern and color… so you slap it down on your living room floor and start thinking about what wall color would look good, curtains, throw pillows, etc.

So for the bedroom, I’ve been keeping my little eyeball out for a perfect comforter to design the rest of the room around. And for me, this first design element can be a little bit pricey, because I really want to love it. Enough that I feel like it’s ok to skimp on everything else in the room.

Here’s where you come in… below are several examples of comforters I’ve found that we really like. We haven’t made any decisions yet, and need your opinion!! Do any of them stand out to you?? (and keep in mind that we’ll be crafting a new tufted headboard to match).

If I were Pioneer Woman, I would discuss each comforter in great detail and outline the pros and cons and what we like/dislike about each. But I’m just not that kind of girl. Here they are kids. Whadya think?

Awww, thanks for stopping in to say hello! That’s so funny that you liked so many of the same comforters! Which one did you end up choosing? We have YET to upgrade our comforter. SO EXPENSIVE. 🙂 We’re total tight-wads!

I realize this is a really old post, lol. But I just found you. It’s funny when I shopped comforters last all but 1 of your choices up there were in my list of possibilities. I adore your DIY spirit, I encompass the same myself and style is quite similar in what I love most. So I had to say hello if nothing else 🙂

#1 is my favorite. Then #5. #2 seems to lack color, but I like the texture of the comforter. Maybe if you added more boldness to the pictures or walls…

I like 2,3, and 4. Not sure how your hubby feels, but I think mine would consider 2 to be a little girly (I still love it anyway).

My vote’s for #2 and 3. I love the the gray because you can paint the wall whatever color you want and accessorize in colors, then totally change your mind the next couple years and go a different color scheme without needing a whole new comforter. The chartreuse with birds is whimsical, so I like that one too…

I like numbers 2 and 6. I think number two would be the best option because you could easily find other pieces that will work with it and you can keep it for a long time, and easily change accents and accessories for a new look. I personally would use the green as more of an accent color, but that’s just me. Me, who for SIX YEARS has had a plain white down comforter and white walls because I have no idea what I want!!!

My favorites are the first and the last one, though I agree with Angie that the first one might be a little cutesy for your normal tastes… 🙂 And #5 is pretty fun too!

the third or last one are my fave. the others seem too busy to base a room around. the comforter would be overbearing in the room. Personal opinion.

First choice, #5. It looks so you. Second choice, #6. I can visualize the coolest headboard and accessories to go along with this one–and know you could pull it off wonderfully!

The first one has a bit of a cutesy feel to it… not sure that I dig it for you, though it’s my second choice. The subsequent few are a little muted, especially the gray one…. though they may not be in real life. My favs are the last two. Though, I would like the gray, white, yellow to be darker gray. I do, however, have NOTHING critical to say about the mucus one!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s the right kind of obnoxiously wonderful 🙂 Not plain, not just anyone. That’s why after considering it all, the first one is my number two…. also a little of the beth flair, though it’s just a hair feminine.

Wait, did I mention all the reasons why I love the fifth one?? 🙂 I also the the white pattern.

    okay, the end. love you!
