Home Improvements: Headboard

September 8, 2009 by Bethany Sy

Granted, I’m no interior designer (though I wasted a lot of money thinking I could become one) I still cruise around my house looking for little things I could improve or update to make our home as beautiful and personalized as possible… on little to NO budget. So, as i stood at the foot of our master bed, I sadly look up at my lack of headboard. The dilemma being: I have a super cute comforter, accented by a drab (and horribly beige) wall behind it. *see photo*

Now in my opinion, a headboard can say a lot about a person. Whether they’re classy or sassy, whether or not they value appearance, and it can be a very telling reflection on a couple’s relationship/sex life. With that being said, I’ve spent my free time at work (while waiting for the elderly to be finished on the toilet) brainstorming about how I could create a headboard to really ‘pop’ in our master suite.

And so, after acquiring some sample fabrics (as well as the fabric from both pillow shams that came with

the comforter) …I went to work! To my suprise, and among many other gifts, my husband happens to know a thing or two about carpentry. So what started out as a solo project, quickly became a joint effort, and a great marriage bonding activity. What would’ve taken me hours, took us about 45 minutes  together, and we both have a great sense of accomplishment!! And with only a minor disagreement about adhesives. I feel that this project contributed to my ‘wifishness’ and I’m pretty sure it gave the husband his man boost (ladies, power tools do wonders with the men-folk).

I think the headboard makes the room look beautiful and regal… and turned out even better than I hoped! Now, what will my next project be… 🙂

This is really lovely. Thank you for giving me an idea to try out for myself. I hope my headboard turns out as lovely as yours did. And honestly I don’t think you wasted any money becoming an interior designer. I think you instincts were correct and that you have a good eye for color and texture. Don’t sell yourself short. I think this is amazing!
