How to make a DIY Cribbage Board

December 18, 2017 by Bethany Sy

Hi friends! We’re getting pretty close to Christmas now, eh? Nick and I have been busy little elves in our workshop making gifts for our friends and family members, and these Cribbage Boards turned out so amazing, we just had to share the how-to with you! They’re actually pretty simple if you have the right drill bit and template, so read on!

Supplies for DIY Cribbage Boards

Racetrack Cribbage

  • Template
  • Wooden Cribbage Pegs
  • Game Drilling Plunge Drill Bit
  • 1/4” Round Over Drill Bit
  • 1 3/8 Forstner Drill Bit
  • Drill Press

Rockler’s Template makes this a quick project present to throw under the tree for your cribbage-loving loved one!

We grabbed what scraps we had laying around the garage and made 3 standard size racetrack cribbage board games.  Pictured below, a maple (the asymmetrical one that might make you twitch if you’re OCD), live edge cutoff, and an old cutting board that never got finished (the one with a pattern of 3 different wood types).

We cut the scraps to a length that would fit the Rockler Template + the length needed to drill a 1 3/8” carrying/hanging hole.  We used our Ridgid Compund Sliding Miter Saw to do this.

Then we marked the outline of the template.

We drilled a 1 3/8” hole using a forstner bit and drill press.

Once the carrying holes were drilled we routed the holes and edges with a 1/4” round over router bit.

Using masking tape we then taped on the template and drilled all the holes.

Lastly sand and finish.  Viola!!! Super simple homemade games!

Rockler also sells a XL Template and pegs.  This is a great option for your Cribbage Crazed Colleagues.  This makes for one monster of a cribbage board, measuring 8” x 28”.  It is also a great gift for your cribbage loving auntie with arthritis, the pegs on this bad boy are easy to grab and maneuver.
