One of my fondest childhood memories and favorite holiday traditions is making Christmas Cutout Cookies as a family! We’ve carried this tradition on with our girls and while it’s the hottest of messes, we all enjoy it immensely!
I whipped up a double batch of Christmas Sugar Cookie dough (we use this recipe, and it NEVER FAILS), rolled out the dough after it’s chilled and attacked with cookie cutters! The sisters don’t quite understand the concept of maximizing the dough when they push the cookie cutter directly into the center of the rolled-out dough. Ha! And once baked and cooled, it’s finally time for frosting and decorating these bad boys! We’re so excited to be partnering with ALDI to share all kinds of festive and yummy ways to decorate cookies when you host your own cookie party! Whether it’s just your family or the neighbor kids come over too!
I used a roll of brown paper to ‘wrap’ the dining table like a present, then made a pretty runner down the middle with holiday wrapping paper from ALDI to add a burst of color to the dull brown paper situation.
It looks classy, but everything on this table is PAPER! Now it’s time to load up the yummies! There’s such an amazing variety of perfect topping ideas at ALDI. I raided their store and bought Baker’s Corner Peanut Butter Morsels, Dark Chocolate Morsels White Chocolate Morsels, Coconut Flakes, Mini Marshmallows, Cake Mate Sprinkles, and Spangler Candy Canes! Have you ever put crushed candy canes on a cookie? Stop what you’re doing and try it. I’ll wait…
Let the festivities begin!
I also used Baker’s Corner White Frosting and added food coloring. Each of these bowls (below) is half of a frosting container. I usually make my own frosting, but it was SUCH a weight off my shoulders using Baker’s Corner Frosting and the whole process was so much faster and cleaner. It’s delicious too! I think there’s definitely a time and a place for homemade though.
The whole scene is dreamy and promotes delicious creativity! Let the cookie decorating begin!
Are you inspired to throw your own Christmas Cookie Decorating Party this weekend or at your family gathering for the holidays? It’s so fun! Embrace the chaos!
And let’s be honest, throw in a couple bottles of wine and this would be a fun adult party too. Girlfriend Cookie Decorating Party anyone?
It’s no secret that we love shopping at ALDI for all our groceries (and more!), and it was so fun partnering with them for this festive party post! Be sure to stop in to your local ALDI for all your Christmas Cookie toppings! Now go forward and make some holiday memories with the kiddos!
