Front Porch Refresh

All this time at home has sparked some serious creativity around the house. And now that the weather is warming up here in Iowa, we can finally get outdoors and start giving our curb appeal a little love too!

After a tumultuous winter, our front porch needed some serious TLC.

The ONLY redeeming factor to the tragic pic above is the darling bubble floating above the chimenea. Cypress’ new favorite activity is blowing bubbles outside for HOURS.

Anywho! I’m not entirely sure why our front porch is painted maroon, but it just hasn’t been a priority to fix that. And it’s not a priority now either. I just need to add some serious LIFE to this space with… you guessed it PLANTS! (duh)

I’ve been itching to give the porch a makeover for AWHILE, as evidenced by this pic of Cypress and I shopping (before social distancing!) at Walmart for my fave potting soil and plant food, Miracle-Gro!

We were also happy to find some amazing plants to give our front porch some life. Check out this lineup!

Last summer, I had the idea to put flowers in our chimenea since we don’t ever use it for actual fire. And I thought it would be fun to do that again and show you how!

I loaded up the chimenea with Miracle-Gro Potting Mix to start with.

Press around the nursery pot to help the root ball to come out easily.

Loosen up the root system with your fingers, and then pop that baby into the chimenea!

I put a second matching plant below it to give the appearance of the flowers overflowing out of the chimenea.

So fun, right? I also got some begonia flowers in 3 different colors to put in that 3-tier galvanized metal planter situation.

I gave all those plants a good soak with water. Because Miracle-Gro potting mix already has plant food, I will save my Miracle-Gro All Purpose Plant Food to give the plants a little spruce in about 30 days.

Stand back and check out that view! HELLO GORGEOUS!

Isn’t it such an improvement?

I’ve been a fan of Miracle-Gro products long before they reached out to partner, and I can honestly say they’re my go-to soils for both exterior plants and houseplants!

I hope this gives you some inspiration to give your own front entryway a little life this spring!
