January 29, 2021 by Bethany Sy

Every time I get the itch to make some Stained Art (the technique I invented back when we were rehabbing this buffet), I always want to try doing something different. Sticking with stained flowers is such a SAFE choice, because I know I'm good at doing flowers! I'm COMFORTABLE doing flowers! I've stepped outside of my comfort zone and tried doing a landscape stained art project, and just ... [ Read More ]

Stained Wooden Logo Sign

February 13, 2020 by Bethany Sy

I have some exciting news! My baby brother is getting married this summer, and my new sister-in-law is the most precious human being. Like, basically, I can't wait to hang out with her for the rest of my life. She called me up the other day and asked me if I would help her do a project to surprise Josh for their dating anniversary. Since I've been in a creative slump and don't have any ... [ Read More ]

Magnolia Bloom Stained Art

October 25, 2018 by Bethany Sy

Ooo ooo oooooo! I have a new stained project for you today! With the craziness of this past year and the new house, I haven't had much time to throw around stain on my favorite canvas... WOOD! But Della's school was having an event with a raffle, and they asked if I'd like to donate anything for the raffle. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to carve out some time for my art. And I ... [ Read More ]

July 10, 2018 by Bethany Sy

I discovered a new staining technique, and I'm so excited to show you! I used it on my branding for videos, and I've been itching to try it on something else more practical. I'm not really sure what to call this, so for lack of a better term, we're going with 'Reverse Staining Technique'. *This post is sponsored by Frog Tape. Thank you for supporting the fabulous brands that make Reality ... [ Read More ]

Wood Veneer Lampshade with Stained Art!

August 30, 2017 by Bethany Sy

IT’S FINALLY HERE! The stained wood veneer lampshade! If you watched our Facebook Live(s) you know that we’ve been recording/editing video for my latest stain art! And this time instead of staining onto a solid piece of wood furniture, I actually stained my art onto a thin sheet of wood veneer. Birch to be exact. And then we (Nick) made it into a LAMPSHADE! *This post is sponsored by Mohawk. ... [ Read More ]

Posterized Art Portrait with Stain on a Wooden Canvas

January 24, 2017 by Bethany Sy

My little sister and I are 10 years apart. I endured a lot of BROTHERS before I finally got a sister, and I’ve always cherished her so much, despite our age difference. We didn’t fight much growing up, because we weren’t interested in the same things. I liked boys and cheerleading, and she liked dressing up her doll. And that was okay! But my little sister Anna is alllll grown up now, at the ... [ Read More ]

December 5, 2016 by Bethany Sy

I know a lot of you are intimidated to try my Shading with Stain Technique… but you shouldn’t be! If you’re playing around on a piece of scrap wood, or a junk piece of furniture you picked up curb-side, then YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE! Yes I’m yelling at you! Tee hee! Unicorn Spit Project Ideas and Inspiration

January 29, 2016 by Bethany Sy

As I look back over the past few years as a homeowner and blogger, I’ve noticed that each year it seems like my creative focus as been a different subject. This past year, it seems like it’s been my ‘Shading with Stain’ technique (using oil based stains and Unicorn Spit). The year before that it was Painting Backsplashes. The year before that it was the twins’ new room. And the year before that, ... [ Read More ]
