Let’s talk about my living room for a moment, shall we?
So, you may recall we put up some board & batten, oh… like a hundred years ago. Ok not really, but it seems like forever ago.
I absolutely LOVE it… but I’m still waiting for Nick to put a tiny little shelfy thing at the top so I can set pictures on it and such. (Though I probably won’t be decorating with starfish… HA!)

I’d like to tell you that he’s procrastinating, but sadly I can’t. He does have good reason for making me wait.
Kind of.
You see… we’ve been saving up to remove this wall that separates our living room and dining room. (Yes, I’ve been living under these conditions for many months.)
And it would be silly to perfectly finish the board and batten, only to have to repair and add onto the edges where the wall ‘used to be’. But luckily the end is in sight… we’ll be knocking out that wall once and for all NEXT MONTH! I’m soooo excited! It’s going to open up the floor plan SO much!
I’ve got all kinds of ideas swimming around in my head for a pattern or stencil to do above the board & batten. It’s going to be awesome!
Maybe something like one of these Orla Keily patterns, only not these colors? Maybe with varying shades of gray? I just don’t know for sure, but I sure do love dreaming about it.
I know what you’re thinking… ‘you just wrote this entire post JUST to tell us nothing has changed in your living room?’
Wellll… kinda. Except we have a ‘new’ piece of furniture to introduce! I’d like you to meet this sweet little secretary desk.
(YIKES! That picture also reminds me how desperately we need curtains!)
My sister-in-law, Carrie’s parents were getting rid of it and offered it to us. I’m totally infatuated with it. I love all the little cubbies and drawers. An organizers paradise.
We plan to eventually ‘update’ it, the way that we do. But I wanted it to sit in my living room for awhile so I could look at it and make darn sure I knew what I want it to look like! (since we’re KEEPING this one!) And I have to admit, I kinda like it’s existing finish for now!
It’s serving as the command center of our home. Every piece of paper-mess has a place… which for me is a beautiful thing. Nick pays the bills here. I blog here. I’m sitting here right now! Can you picture me?
Now, did you picture me in my flannel PJ’s with bedhead and a snot-faced baby in my arms? Don’t worry, I’m not neglecting her… she enthralled with the strings on my hoodie. And I’m skillfully typing with one hand. TRUE!
That little space between the secretary and the couch could really use an end table, or something… but the girls love to stand there and look out the window.
And I love that. So I’m leaving it open!
Sorry… I know you’ve already seen that picture. But I just love it enough to make you look at it twice. Happy Wednesday y’all!
LOVE the secretary desk!
Bed, bath& beyond has Orla Keily bedding now…just so you don’t miss out.
I can’t wait to see when the wall is down. It will be so great when it’s done! Hang in there little mama!
I also love the little cubbies! But we already had another piece just like this, and it was John’s desk. However, he is a piler–his favorite form of organization. And it was always open and over-flowing. When we redid our office, we each got our own desk. Mine has cubbies. His has piles. And we’re both happy because I face away from his desk. 🙂
I am so happy you’ve fallen in love with it, too. Kathie
