The Twins are Six!!!

July 25, 2017 by Bethany Sy

When I was growing up, all I ever wanted to be was a mommy. And since I have SO MANY brothers and sisters (my parents really like each other), I never in a million years dreamed that I would find myself in the trenches of infertility. (our full infertility story is here) They were the darkest and most painful days of my life, and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. And even now, 6 years later, I still think about how I’m one of the lucky ones every single day.

Paisley and Dell's 6th birthday {Reality Daydream}Remember how I used to take pics of the twins in this orange chair every month?! I still love to do it each year on their birthday!

We celebrated the twins’ 6th birthday a few weeks ago! I’ve gotten to be a mom for 6 years. We’ve been a family for 6 years.

We got the girls cameras for their birthday (affiliate link here), because they’re allllllways asking us to use our phones to take pictures. Let’s just say they’re OBSESSED.

I also had a VERY talented artist on Etsy draw up a little sketch of the twins together in their favorite dresses. It turned out insanely cute and was the best idea ever! Don’t you think everyone should have a cute illustration of themselves?!

There were presents, cinnamon rolls, and rose bushes! Oh, and jealous little sisters.

The girls have been begging to go ice skating for the past year, so we decided that would be the perfect July birthday party! They got to pick two friends, and we hit the ice for an afternoon!

Here’s my honest review of ice skating with 6-year-olds… it’s SO FUN, but also takes a good 45 minutes for them to get the feel of the ice. Make sure you have one adult per child to help them out at first. We were lucky enough to be joined by my bestie Dana, my sister Anna, and my brother and his family for the day, so we had plenty of help. It was a BLAST.

And of course, we couldn’t let this special day slip away without taking those iconic annual willow tree pics. Look how they’ve grown! The girls AND the trees! And, as usual, I HAVE to throw in the willow tree pics from previous years so you can see the progression. My fave part!

Isn’t that insaaaane?! So fun seeing them grow before my eyes in that progression. The days are long, but the years are short! Paisley would want me to mention to you that her tree’s growth is NOT stunted… it’s just that a main part of the top of the tree died off last summer, but the rest of it is thriving, so it’ll catch back up in no time!

We also did our yearly questionnaire which is always SO FUN! It’s hilarious to hear some of the things the girls answer. Also, this is the first year they both answered that the other is their favorite friend. It made this twin-mommy’s heart explode.

Feeling so blessed, and knowing I’m the luckiest mama in the world! LOVE all 3 of my girls!

Wow 6….I’ve been reading your blog since sawdust and embryos. I you and your husband are very tall and wonder how tall are the girls? My husband is 6′ and I’m 5′ 7″ and our only girl is 6’3″. None of our 4 boys are past 6’2″ LOL. She’s 27 now and has always loved her height. Your girls are adorable and you are so talented and creative along with your husband. Happy Birthday Paisley and Della.

First time reading your blog since I subscribed and I can absolutely tell how much you love your girls. They’re lucky to have a mom like you! Every child should be so fortunate.

My daughter was born right after your twins. I have loved watching them grow as much as my little girl.
Are they starting Kindergarten this year or did they do that last year?
