Second Chance

November 11, 2010 by Bethany Sy

Mi Madre, being one of our biggest fans, picks up little finds that she comes across in her extensive garage saling journeys. She’s a pro, and can sniff out a deal from a mile away. And she likes to keep our garage stocked with what you would call: PURE GARBAGE. And this gem was no exception.

Rescued from certain death, my momma snatched this chair up from someone’s front yard, as it awaited the garbage truck. Everyone-thing deserves a second chance, right?

After a coat of paint and a new cushion/bold fabric, this chair has new life!

So next time your sending something on the fast track to the dump, give it a double take and think of what it could be if it were refinished/reupholstered/repurposed. You might be amazed with yourself!

And here’s a tip… if an item has a lot of imperfections, and paint doesn’t entirely fix the situation, take some fine grit sandpaper and distress the edges here and there, bring out the imperfections and make some of your own! Not too SHABBY! (pun intended)

I have this chair! Although my cushion is in better condition. My back section is missing a piece. But I’m keeping mine :).
