So today I’m going to show you what we’ve been doing in the bedroom! Other than sleeping, and… stuff.
Let’s talk accent walls, shall we? You know I’m a fan of geometric accent walls, especially when there’s a 3-dimensional aspect involved. Kinda like the Patchwork Herringbone Wall we did in the twins’ room (which is still a front-runner for my favorite project ever).
Last year, I saved an Instagram pic to my inspiration folder (if you don’t follow Pretty Handy Girl on Insta, get on it!) because I loved the unique pattern. She reports that it’s a window display at High Point Market. And I’ve always LOVED this plywood accent wallthat my friends at Classy Clutter pulled off. So I decided to do an accent wall using inspiration from both!

Let me start by saying… I would never do this to all the walls in a room. Not only because it’s a lot of work, but it would just be toooo busy to the eye. But I love the texture that both the wood and pattern add. Let’s do this!
Supply List for Geometric Plywood Accent Wall
- 1/4” Plywood (we used {4} 4×8′ sheets of plywood for a wall that measures 9×16′)
- Laser Level
- Liquid Nails
- Brad Nailer (we use the RYOBI AirStrike)
We started out with 4 sheets of 1/4” plywood from our local home improvement store.
My original plan was to cut my shapes out of cardstock to use as a template to draw the pattern out on the plywood (then cut with a jigsaw). But Nick saw an opportunity to make a jig and cut all the shapes with the table saw. Either way would totally work.
He just sliced and diced away until we had a huuuuuge stack of our shapes!

We used Liquid Nails, slopped on a few blotches, and pressed it on the wall. We cut a handful of 1” spacers so we could keep them perfectly spaced from each other and the wall/ceiling. We also used this laser level to keep things perfectly vertical at all times. That thing is HANDY! It gives both a vertical and horizontal line and is self-leveling!
Once our shape is in place, we used our Airstrike Nailer and shot a single brad nail at the top, and one at the bottom. The nail heads are so tiny, they don’t even show!
We worked our way across the room, one vertical row at a time, leaving the ‘partial pieces’ till last. We made this delightful GIF for you out of extremely fuzzy pictures (didn’t realize my camera had gotten bumped to a weird setting until afterwards) …but it’s still fun to watch, no?!
I love this picture from out in the hallway (below). It really shows how bright and happy our room is going to be!
Once we had all the ‘whole’ pieces in place, we traced out a few templates onto paper and cut them out with scissors. Then we could easily fold and bend and crease them into the spots that needed a ‘partial piece’. Make sense?
Same thing along the ceiling.
This plywood accent wall went up in one afternoon, and it has me soooo giddy and excited for the direction this room is going!
Doesn’t it just add a unique burst of interest and texture?!
Next on the list is to paint the trim and extra chunky crown molding (still haven’t decided if I’m doing white or a color), adding bamboo/wicker blinds, and finishing the pendant lights that will hang over our night stands. I love how it’s coming together!!
Be sure to check out the other DIY projects/tutorials that we’ve done so far in this room!
Thanks for pinning!

Beth, you and Nick are amazing. How creative! if you get tired of the look, you can always paint them and that’d make a totally different appearance. Love this wall and ready to see what else you have planned. Great Job!

Thank you Karen! <3

Cool idea. Can’t wait to see the finished look.
I have been curious, are the twins attending Kindergarten in the fall?

I would stick with just brad nails as getting them off again when you get tired of the look will take a lot of the wall with it. If you want them on solid maybe try some silicone that is easy to scrape off.

Yes that’s a thought! We used Liquid Nails that’s supposed to be ‘somewhat’ easily removeable. That seems kinda like an oxy-moron, but we’ll see someday down the road when IT’S TIME. Lol! Until then, we’re going to enjoy it! I think this plywood pattern is such that it will develop with our design style too! 🙂

Three cheers for Nick and his cool jig!!!

Very cool I would do something to help to prevent trying to dust in. Edges would definitely need sanded and maybe some sort of finish so they just wipe off. I am all about easy dusting.

This is amazing! I’ve been looking for a cool accent wall to make for our master bedroom. Yours is definitely on the list!

You two have done it again. This project looks fantastic in your bedroom. I know you love you some color but I would leave the trim the color it is now. It goes so well with the natural wood. In the first picture of Nick’s shop what is the large piece (painting of a flower?) on the wall to the right? Did I miss a post about that? Vikki in VA.
Beth @ Reality Daydream says
Yeah? You think I should leave the trim white? I’ve been thinking that too actually. So hard to tell until all these elements come into place, huh? If I do go with a color for the trim, it will be very pale.
As for the flower mural in the garage, it’s just a mandala that I drew on the wall that I paint on here and there. Sometimes when Nick is working on a project and I don’t have anything to do, I like to have a little something to paint on. 🙂

That is so cool looking! Who would ever think to do that? My only concern would be what if you get tired of it? Liquid Nail is tough stuff. Hopefully it won’t damage your walls if you decide to ever get rid of the 3D look.

wow this is pretty awesome Bethany! I love the look and texture of it!
