Does anybody recognize the movie quote I used as the title to this post? Anybody? Beuller?
JK, it’s not Ferris Beuller.
I thought I should take some time to chat about all the happenings that went on for us throughout the month of December! My blog post traffic is always low around the holidays (people got better things to do!), and since we make most of our Christmas gifts… our time becomes even more precious and it can be stressful to keep up with the blog during this time anyway. So I decided to just take it easy, kick back, and enjoy my family, the holidays, have a hernia repair surgery, and make lotsa gifts in Santa’s Workshop! (AKA the garage)
Nick made me this beautiful cutting board for Christmas. His brain is a vast sea of intricate designs and complicated ideas. I know I’ve only begun to scratch the surface of understanding his creativity and love for me. Yesterday we celebrated our 7th Anniversary.
There was a lot of other things that we built as gifts for family members throughout the past month, but I’m gonna wait to show you, because I’ll have corresponding tutorials to share with them SOON!
For some reason, I thought it would be smart to schedule our 3rd Annual Cookie Decorating Party less than a week after my hernia repair surgery. Luckily the girls were huge helpers (LOL) and we knocked on 20 dozen cookies lickety split. It ended up being so much fun… as usual!
On Christmas Eve morning, as if on cue, a blanket of fresh snow started falling. We could not have asked for better timing! There’s nothing quite like magical/sparkly snow just in time for Christmas!
Cypress must have been feeling the magic of Christmas too, because that same morning she decided it was a great day to start crawling. She was suddenly motivated by the Christmas tree (that had been there for weeks).
On Christmas day, after the chaos of wrapping paper, happy squeals, and cinnamon rolls… we headed to my parents to celebrate for a couple days in NE Iowa. I’m not going to go into much detail about our visit, but I HAD to share with you the fun thing my mom had planned for us grown-up kids. Now that my 6 siblings and I are grown (and many of us have spouses) she’s always thinking of fun things for us to do together as a family, and this time she planned a Scavenger Hunt all around town! We teamed up in pairs, and drove around town taking pictures and selfies in different locations, doing different tasks. HILARIOUS.
If you have a ton of adult siblings, I highly recommend this. Especially when you’re all together for the holidays and getting bored of sitting around eating leftover ham. It was SO FUN. We came in second place, but we really deserved first (obvs).
It was a wild and busy December, filled with so much love, family, food, and chaos. Just the way I like it.
And now? FIRST MONDAY IN JANUARY… back to the grind, right?!

I totally sang the song in my head immediately! I loved the music from “Anastasia” as a kid that I bought the soundtrack on CD.
The scavenger hunt is such a great idea!

I have a super idea I know you’ll love. I’ll pay you guys a monthly fee, and you just make one extra of everything you make for yourselves and send it on over to me. I love everything y’all make! Let’s get together again in 2016!

My favorite movie as a kid…. Anastasia!
Nice scavenger hunt.
Jenna Michelle Pink says
Oh your mum’s scavenger hunt is similar (but far more adventurous ) to something my nan does every year. She hides a present in the house for each of it and then we have a series of clues and riddles to find that lead us to it. So much fun 🙂
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
That sounds so fun too Jenna!!

Love that song of course from the movie Anastasia. It popped up on my daughters Disney playlist on Pandora the other day and I thought of the irony since it was a Dreamworks film…….anyways.
Can Nick PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post a tutorial on that cutting board!!!!! I am swooning over here!!!!! Happiest of times to your crew!
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
He’s had several requests for a tutorial, so maybe that will be the push he needs! But ONLY after he finishes the thing I’ve most recently tasked him with. LOL!
Katie Reed says
Yay! Someone else who knows the songs from Anastasia! 😀
Sounds like a lovely December. Wish my siblings would get into something like that scavenger hunt, but sadly only two of us get along, and none of us are very outgoing. 😉
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
Yay for Anastasia fans! 😉
And BOO that your siblings aren’t close or outgoing. There’s a good chance participating in a family Scavenger Hunt might fix BOTH problems! 😉
Cornelia says
Anastasia! I love that movie… and your cutting board. 🙂
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
Thank ya Cornelia! I love your name!

It looks like you had a great holiday season, you are correct it was crazy busy for us as well. I love your mom’s idea for the scavenger hunt, how fun! Happy New Year!
Beth @ Sawdust and Embryos says
I tried to get a headstart on the holidays this year to make it less busy… DIDN’T WORK. Lol! 😉
Lindi says
