Sometimes I assume everyone is following along on our home renovations over on Instagram (@RealityDaydream), but I need to do better about sharing our progress here on the blog too! Ever since we connected our house to our garage via a ‘mudroom’, it has sat unfinished. Concrete floors, unpainted drywall.
But that’s all changing!! This is about to be a functional mudroom!
As you can see, at some point along the way, I did a quick phase 1 makeover and added some vertical stripes, coat hooks and some plants to hold us over until we could actually do a full renovation on this room and make it truly what we want it to be!
Don’t be fooled by that pic above though. I was using a wide angle lens, and it looks far bigger than it really is. Here’s a pic of the mudroom when it was being built. Nick for scale. 🙂
Our historic home is a Colonial Federal style, which means it has tons of ornate character in its features and millwork. You can really see it in the crown moulding, the library bookshelf arches, plaster ceiling medallions and the arched corner shelves pictured below.
Even though the mudroom is a new addition, we want to honor the history of our home whenever we can. So we’re going to make every effort to make this mudroom look original to our home by mimicking details at every turn.
With all these ornate features in mind, I drew up a little sketch and the vision for arched mudroom lockers was born.
While the arches and historical detail of the mudroom are important to us, it also needs to function well for our family. We’re chatting more about this in the next post! Come see our progress on those built-in arched mudroom lockers!
