I get all wistful and nostalgic when it comes to my childhood memories. I love to keep everything… but not in a hoarding type of way. My parents were cleaning out their garage, and came across a couple boxes of mine; things I’d saved that meant something to me.
I took a trip down memory lane. (honey, i promise the dining room won’t look like this when you get home)
There were countless picture frames, letters from my high school besties and old boyfriends, things that my dad built me out of wood, birthday cards, etc. I did throw some things away, but much of it is just too memorable to part with! I think my future kids will enjoy wandering down memory lane with me someday.
I must have been one spoiled child to have TWO belt-packs. I know these are gonna come back in style someday. And when they do, I’ll be ready.
I also fell upon a little heart-shaped wooden jewelry box that my grandpa made. Inside were wonderful treasures from the 80’s.
I remember LOVING these earrings!
I’m SO wearing these to my husband’s company Christmas party. …make the other wives jealous. 🙂
Found my sweet Indian Head penny collection! Dating back to 1880! Maybe they’ll be worth something someday.
Here are my corsages from the 5 PROMS I ATTENDED. I loved prom. And boys loved me.
Ok… that last part not so much.
And I had completely forgotten that I owned this adorable tea set. I just love it. I shall pass it down to my future daughter (I hope). All the pieces are still there, and without cracks or chips!
Best of all… my Playground Kids. These dolls were MY Barbie. I loved them. They’re so colorful and flexible, with different hair colors/textures, removable clothing, and they each came with their own piece of playground equipment. Tell me one of you has heard of them. They were made by Ertl, and abruptly stopped production of these little cuties right in the middle of my childhood. I may be scarred forever. Have ANY of you heard of Playground Kids? This is a matter of great importance.
Hi all I am looking to collect any FAKE playground kids by fishel toys and meritus toys. If anyone has any or knows of any please let me know. Thanks
YES I HAVE HEARD OF THEM AND AM DESPERATELY LOOKING FOR ONE!! My daughter lost my old one and she loved it and I need to find one… If you want to sell one to me Id love you forever!
Oh no! I can’t bear to part with mine (or even let my OWN girls play with them yet)… but have you checked Ebay?
I LOVE my playground kids! I hope my daughter loves them too! I have them in a box in my closet right now. 🙂 I used them WITH my Barbies. I had one Barbie who was the “older sister” of three playground kids (two big ones and one of the toddler ones). She adopted them when their parents died in a car crash. Oh my imagination! 🙂 haha
Yaaaaaaaaaay! I always love to hear from other PK lovers. 🙂 Honestly, I’m a little nervous to let my girls play with them, because they’re so precious to me. Isn’t that terrible? 🙂
You have no idea how happy I am to find another person who enjoyed Playground Kids as much as I did! They were my #1 toy as a child but I could only save up for them so fast, so I was only ever able to buy four of them (Becky, Emily, etc.) As a child, I was so upset when they stopped making them that I determined I would go into the toy making industry as an adult to rectify the situation. =P Since then, I periodically look for them wherever I can, but can never find them or any mention of their existence. So strange. If you ever want to be rid of any, just let me know! sweet_1683@hotmail.com Thanks for sharing!
Yay Katie! I get so excited to meet other Playground Kid enthusiasts! 🙂 They were the BEST!
I know and seriously I can’t find them anywhere on the web and your blog is the first mention I’ve heard of them in about 22 years! I’ll bet your girls will enjoy them too. =) IF you ever see them in production again, or anything like them, please tell me!
I just did an Ebay search… and there are some for sale. But they are PRICEY! Yikes!

I loved playground kids! Had Becky and Melissa 🙂
*gasp* I still have my playground kids!!! I loved them. The floppy legs & big clunky shoes. They were awesome. 🙂
I was totally thinking about my Playground Kids the other day! We had so much fun with those. 🙂 I was also trying to remember if I gave you those Christmas Tree earrings or if I had my own pair & we were “twins”. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! ~Lindsay Hartman
I think I had one of those playground kids!!!!! So fun.
i would totally buy that pastel fanny pack off of you. <3 🙂
LOVED playground kids 🙂 They were also my ‘barbies’. 🙂 Have you heard of The Heart Family? They were the “Christian barbies” of our day 🙂 LOL!
I live on the prairies in Canada. I was just cleaning out my daughter’s toy closet the other day and came across these dolls. Had forgotten the name, but yes, they are indeed Playground Kids and I couldn’t part with them yet! Hoping some day the grandkids will enjoy too. I think I bought them for my girls when we were in Palm Springs years ago as a special holiday treat. They were well loved.

How very fun to go thru long forgotten things & bring back some sweet memories….
Those Christmas earrings are a hoot.
And not long ago, cleaning my closet, I came across my old “fanny pack” & there was $140 inside… how did I not remember that I had left that in there??? It was yrs. since I used it : )
