This past weekend, I was given the opportunity to nurture my illness and love for digging through other people’s rejected items. Through the long winter, I’ve been restricted to thrift stores and craigslists… but Spring is here! And that means GARAGE SALES!!!
Note: I’m aware that bargain shopping and the rush of getting a good deal is an early sign of hoarding.
My girl Leah and I set out early with a half-plan and a map, and had a blast!! Here are a few of my favorite finds!
I’m not entirely sure why I’m drawn to doily’s, but they always catch my eye… almost like there’s an idea for an awesome project in the back of my mind that I haven’t tapped into quite yet. It will come to me. Any ideas? Maybe some sort of nursery wall art? I love Ashley Ann’s doily idea HERE, but I already have a table runner that has sentimental value, plus I want to be original. Until then… I’m the proud owner of a bunch of doily’s.
Note: I’m aware that stockpiling items for a hypothetical future project is a hoarding tendency and should be regarded as a red flag.
Secondly, I found this huge and somewhat abstract painting of the New York skyline. I love the colors and the sloppiness. And I love that it’s massive. Not many pieces of art survive in our living room without being swallowed by our extremely awesome 50’s sectional couch. But this painting totally pulls it off! TWO DOLLARS people… two dollars.
Picked up a couple beat-up frames that will get a fresh coat of paint (along with some of my other reject frames from over the years) to make a collage in the nursery! Haven’t decided on a color yet. Waiting for the nursery to come together a little more.
And lastly, I snagged this ugly little blue shelf that will surly get a makeover… specifically involving ripping off those pegs and adding some little hooks of my own, in addition to a new coat of paint. Stay tuned!

With the really nice doilies, I like to mount them on mat board and frame them. I found one that was shaped like a house, mounted it on light blue mat board, framed it and gave it to a friend. It looks great in her house – makes me smile every time I visit. Also, have you seen those doily bowl, where they stiffen them around a balloon? I want to try that!

Have you seen online where people are dying the doiles and framing them or putting them on pillows. They look updated when they are dyed. You should try to check it out.

Not sure how far you live from Denver. But last year I found more fun baby things for nearly nothing at the Denver garage sale day!( my secret to garage sales..NEVER pay the sticker price..always tell you you want it for cheaper!..they hook you up more! )
Check out the ABC Garage sales in Conrad on Saturday April 30th! There is usually 40-50 garage sales in the small little town on that day. I usually find some really good buys!
Garage Sales are my favorite time of the year as well. Especially once you have kiddos it does not make since to NOT go! Glad you found some goodies. Can’t wait to see what they will become!!! 🙂
