I’ve decided to start a series of blog postings about my favorite things! Though Nick and I are careful with our pennies, I find myself noticing things around the house that I absolutely LOVE, and feel the need to share with my loyal blog followers.
Nick and I have an unofficial collection of mugs, most of which are obnoxious Christmas mugs. But my favorite mug of all is this adorable orangey leafy creation.
There is a story here.
I should start by saying that I’m not one of those people that frequent Starbuck’s and spend a fortune tending to my coffee addiction (though I know the value of a Venti White Chocolate Mocha on a cold winter morning). But living in a college town at the time, I found myself at Starbuck’s from time to time, enjoying good conversation over coffee. And every time, I would notice this mug for sale!!! How I loved it! And I secretly planned on buying it eventually, just not yet. I couldn’t justify spending $14 on a mug I didn’t need, from an establishment that I try to boycott.
After having moved away from said college town, isolated in the country, 54.19 miles from the nearest Starbuck’s… I decided to purchase the mug I had been thinking about for all these months. It just had to be.
But when I got to the overpriced, high-calorie beverage franchise, I was devastated to learn that my beloved mug had been discontinued and is no longer sold. WHAT?! But being the driven, ambitions kinda girl that I am, I couldn’t rest until I had my mug. So after a little internet research (it never fails) I found my mug being sold not only on Ebay, but on the Starbuck’s website! ON CLEARANCE!
I just wrote a substantial blog about my favorite coffee mug. It’s a sad world we’re living in.
I had never seen this post before, but not only understand, but have totally been there, done that! My big love-mug is brick red and HUGE. One night, my husband and I found one – bought it – and spent the rest of the evening tracking down three more in a L-O-N-G evening driving all over two cities and scrounged up three more. I don’t use anything but these love-mugs and they make me smile, just thinking of our fun night looking for the elusive discount red mugs.
It’s great prose like this that takes the sadness away! Thanks Beth.
There is NOTHING sad about that! I find that the only way to make it through tough times – whether it life in NY or a tight budget – I HAVE to delight in the simple things! Beautiful mug and well worth the well written tribute!
Miss you Beth (and Nick)!
Hope to see you soon :0)
