It’s so exciting seeing our basement finally coming together, and actually feeling like a ROOM! This is where we left you with our last basement update.

Since then, we had a team of dudes come and mud the walls and ceilings, and we’ve primed and painted the walls white. The perfect blank slate!

We’ve already started enjoying this space, and even had our first family movie night down here… Toy Story!! I’m embarrassed to say, it’s the first time my kids have seen this movie.
Anywho! The flooring situation was definitely leaving something to be desired. The cold concrete floors were the opposite of cozy.

Since it would be impossible to match the original maple floors from the rest of the house, we decided to embrace the idea of putting laminate flooring in this space.
And in the midst of our research, our new friends at Pergo (available at Lowe’s) reached out to us with a fun idea to collaborate! Obviously this was perfect timing. And their selection is AMAZING. So hard to choose!
This is the one we ended up choosing. Brentwood Pine available at Lowe’s!

We love the wider planks and lighter wood tones. And the planks have a textured surface to replicate weathered pine!

The click-lock system is made for quick and easy installation, and it was SO FUN to watch this come together! The Pergo Gold underlayment helps with sound and thermal insulation, as well as moisture protection.

Another feature that we love about these Pergo floors is that they’re SO DURABLE. I’m talking water-proof, wear, fade and stain proof, and they have a lifetime warranty! There will be a lot of tomfoolery going down in the space over the years… our kids play hard. Not to mention, I love to create. And I’m pretty messy. 😉

I can’t tell you how amazing it feels to have this space feel like a true ‘finished’ room. Obviously we still need to build a few pieces of furniture (a coffee table will be PRIORITY), but this basement is totally usable as a family room and we love it!

UM, isn’t this flooring gorgeous?! Obviously the windows still need to be trimmed (woof) and the walls need some art, but I don’t even care because I’m so distracted by these floors!!

I still have plans to build a little ‘stage’ down here for the girls to do their many performances. Our kids love theater, singing, magic shows, etc, so it will be fun to build a platform, and have curtains that can be drawn and everything. And I love that I can pursue my DIY passions in this space without Nick freaking out about me ruining the floors.

I totally photoshopped the high wall outlets out of the pic above, because they were just too much. But I know I’ll appreciate them when we decide to rearrange the room and put the TV on the wall. Nick was really thinking!
I’m dreaming up a big piece of wall art to put over it. Stay tuned!

Thank you for pinning!

I love the flooring! I wouldn’t have known it was not real wood. I am interested to see what you do with the windows and doors.
Bethany,
Nothing wrong about your girls only watching Toy Story now for the first time. It means that you don’t use the TV as a babysitter and your girls use their brains more than they don’t. You are a great Mom (and Nick is a great Dad also) so just keep up what you are doing.
Maureen
Hehe, thanks Maureen! We do watch our share of TV though. Mom-guilt is real!
Gorgeous space!!!! The flooring looks amazing & the wall art!!! Where’s the Disco ball?? All that space available for rent? Looks like more room for plants 😉
YESSSSS!
