Me and my sweetie pie have been watching Hoarders lately, and holy buckets… Some people can live in the most disgusting conditions! The benefit of this show is to help you appreciate how tidy your partner is, and it’s been nudging me into a life of freakish organization. Speaking of which, have any of you ever been to The Container Store? It’s an organizational freak’s paradise.
So the other day, as Nick was scrubbing down the stove-top, I was getting down and dirty in the refrigerator, scrubbing the shelves and pitching things that were nearing expiration. I started at the top shelf and worked my way to the bottom… where I had a revelation.
I. only. use. ONE. of. my. veggie. drawers.
The other one sits there vacant, useless, while the rest of our fridge is jam-packed with all the cold goods I need for the entire month. In a moment of pure genius, I removed said drawer, and stood back to admire our new shelf in the fridge! HELLO!
Now, adjacent to the refrigerator is this bizarre laundry/pantry. In a perfect world, laundry and pantry would never be used in the same sentence, let alone be forced to inhabit the same nook in my kitchen. I dream of a day when this whole space will be lined with shelves, and stocked with an abundance of food. It’s not easy trying to shove a months worth of food into these two cabinets.
So I know you’re asking, ‘where will you put your washer and dryer?’ Well you’ll be relieved to know that I have the perfect place!! Of course, I have to wait until we can afford to upgrade to a couple amazing front-load, high efficiency stackables for this space… but this weird and obscure corner in my bathroom is just screaming to be a laundry station! Can’t you see it? So perfect.
It’s part of my 5 year plan. Can you blame a girl for dreaming?
Yay for 5 year plans! I hope to have a house again by then so you are way ahead of us if you only need the washer/dryer 🙂
And yes Hoarders is gross and intriguing at the same time. The woman that had 2 dead cats in her home? gross!!!
Yes! I love the 5 year plan.
That closet will make a fantastic pantry.
Your garage looks great too. We put an electric heater in our garage last year it hangs from the ceiling and has a thermostat so I can just keep it on a low temp to keep the garage warm enough to dry painted projects in the winter.
I wanted something that was up high enough that kids or dogs would not run into it and get hurt.
