Random Matters

January 6, 2014 by Bethany Sy

We’ve been fighting a war against sickness. I only have a minor cold, but the girls and Nick have really gotten slammed.

So needless to say thing have been slow moving around here. But we kinda needed that anyway… after the crazy holiday season. The first week of January is MEANT for lounging around! I just wish we could all be lazy AND healthy.

We did however, get the opportunity to sneak away without the littles last night for our 5-year Anniversary, and this happened…

And we went to see the movie Frozen, which is adorable. I highly recommend it. Speaking of FROZEN… we’re pretty cold here in Iowa. It’s –18* right now, with a windchill of –41*. Brrrrr! Nick saved the day by un-freezing our pipes with my blow-dryer, and now we’re having a movie / pajama day. We might try blowing bubbles outside later. Check this out!

In other news, WE SOLD OUR DINING TABLE (gasp!)

Clear-plastic-over-dining-chairs-for-child-proofing-Sawdust-and-Embryos_thumb

We loved that table… like a LOT! But my sweet Grandmother wanted to pass down her dining set to me. And you know how mushy and sentimental I am. So we joyfully accepted! We’ll be picking it up in Dubuque in the next couple weeks. I can’t wait to share pics of it!

As for progress in the girls’ big-girl room,I ordered this fluffy ‘sheepskin’ rug from Overstock.com for $140 (it’s since gone back up to $167… sorry!), and it arrived today! I love the softness that it adds to the room… and how it covers up the tragic purple/icky carpet. I’m working on DIYing some swag-chandy’s to hang above each bed, and some roman shades. And when I say ‘working on’, I mean I have ideas swimming in my head, but haven’t started on yet.

Twin Girl's Room {Sawdust and Embryos}

Nick is still plugging away at the laundry room… slow and steady wins the race, right? We knew this would be a lengthy project, and this was reaffirmed when we recently ran into some snags. But rest assured we’ll be updating you soon!

    I am so loving the girl’s room. The carpet is perfect. As a little girl I would have died to have a room like this. : ) The girls are blessed in so many ways and I know they will recognize this more as they get older…not that it isn’t apparent they love their mom and dad in a huge way now!!!
    Praying for recovery for all of you.

    Those bubbles are so cool! Sorry to hear about the cold. Also, great to learn about the hairdryer, just incase our pipes ever freeze. I literally wouldn’t know what to do if it snowed here. It was 19 the other night and I was scared of the pipes freezing, my first thought “Should we go to a hotel or something?” haha.. so sad.

    Hope you all feel better and happy 5th!

    Now is a great time to pick up beaded garlands (Christmas decor clearance)–depending on what you want for the “swag chandys” they can be good. And they aren’t just green/red/gold…

      I agree! I just checked at walmart today though, and they didn’t have any beads at all! SUPER BUMMED. I might try the Dollar Tree and see what they have next time I’m in town. Thanks for the idea!

        I’ve found that stores like that will clear out faster. Now is a good time for nicer places clearance. Some nice stores will have a corner of remaining Christmas clearance at 80-90% off. The Dollar Tree local to me had it all boxed up and gone on the 26th.

        I love Tuesday Morning for this. I don’t know if you have one of those nearby.
