Incorporating wood items into your design!

November 11, 2013 by Bethany Sy

Good morning to you! We had a wild and busy weekend filled with family and new friends! We love getting the girls out of the house, and especially love that they get to spend time with family members they don’t get to see often. Nick’s dad volunteered to take us on a hayrack ride on his tractor, which instantly made him a celebrity with the girls… being the tractor enthusiasts that they are.

The girls are hard to get pictures of lately, because they’re constantly on the go busy-bodies… so I like to throw in pics of them whenever I can!

But what I really want to talk about today is how my design ‘taste’ has been evolving this past year. The other day I was surfing through my Pinterest boards, and started noticing a trend in my design taste. I love the combination of exposed wood items. So I gathered some images that are great examples of what I’m talking about… legit eye candy.

{*NOTE!* Pleeeeease don’t pin any of these images from my blog. Go to the original source and give these designers the respect they deserve! Please and Thanks!}

I feel that incorporating wood items with crisp white and some in-your-face color/pattern makes a huge statement. Not everything has to be white anymore! Times are changing!

And then throwing in green plants adds so much life to the room. I’ve been slowly incorporating more plants into my home, and I love the fresh vibe it give off. This next pic is my girl Mandi from Vintage Revivals… that dresser is almost identical to the buffet we refinished with the Mid-Century DIning Set that we reluctantly sold. *sad face*

Pairing wood pieces with color, texture and greenery!

Here’s another one from Mandi… her style, UGH!

Incorporating texture, color, and wood elements into your design

No matter what your style, don’t be afraid to mix geometric patterns, and throw in various textures into a room. I’ll always tell you not to be afraid of color, but be sure to balance it with natural wood items, plants, and even industrial items!

And this design concept can/should be carried outdoors too! These pics (below) from The Handmade Home are giving me all kinds of ideas for how to decorate around our new Circular Pergola we built. I think I already know what my first spring project is going to be!

Patio Inspiration

Aren’t these pics so yummy and inspiring? It makes me feel like we made the right decision when stripping/staining our front door! (you can totally pin THIS one from my site! HA!)

I hope that you’ll take heart and feel comfortable throwing in some wood, texture, and greenery into your space for some serious style. You don’t even need to know what you’re doing (I DON’T!).

Have you guys been taking any new/uncomfortable design plunges? Have you been noticing these new trends in the shelter mags and on Pinterest? I’m loving it!

I love wood. Wood is so classic. I’m in love with wood-grain. It’s such a beautiful natural pattern. These images are stunning.

I love them all! Gave me some inspiration for redesigning my room. I’m bored with my current design. I think I want to repaint as well.

I looooooove wood tones! We are expecting our first little one in January and I knew right away that I didn’t want a black or white crib, I knew I wanted a wood tone. Originally I had planned on doing a dark wood tone but I actually went with an oak. One thing I am experimenting a little with is mixing wood tones. We didn’t get the matching dresser to our crib – we actually scored a great deal on one on Craigslist. I was a little hesitant about mixing the wood tones but after looking around at pictures (thanks to Google), I feel a lot better about it. We are going with a cabin nursery theme so I think the different wood tones will look great! =] How do you feel about mixing different wood tones?

Nice inspiration photos! Especially love the outdoor living spaces and the kitchen with the white paneled wall and all the color.
