After publicly announcing that we suck at gardening (or should I say WEEDING the garden) we proceeded to not do a very good job of keeping you updated on our efforts this summer.
We love planning out our garden and mapping what goes where every spring. And we plant and water and nurture… blah blah blah. But the romance dies as fast as the weeds grow. However this year I’m proud to say the ‘romance’ lasted longer than it usually does, and we were more committed to regularly weeding and keeping things under control… and we had the best harvest to show for it! This was just one day’s haul.
Tons of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, garlic, and peppers! Our carrots and green beans didn’t fare too well, but you can win them all, right?!
It was so fun sending the girls out with their buckets to pick some fresh veggies for dinner. I love that they took part in planting these seeds, watering and weeding, and now get to harvest the rewards! It makes eating healthy FUN! And it teaches them good work ethic.
Back when we planted in the spring, the girls wanted to plant a single pumpkin seed. So we bought a packet of seeds and let them plant their little seed in the dirt… and forgot about it.
And then this happened.
Friends. Our entire family could crawl into one of these pumpkins and comfortably hang out. They are GIANT.
It would be an understatement to say they’re proud.
Ironically, we got two huge pumpkins, and one smaller (but still giant) one. So Nick deemed it appropriate to perch our little children on them for a photo. And I’m so glad he suggested it, because this is epic.
And if you’re wondering if that’s painters tape around Della’s waist? Why yes… yes it is painters tape. And she’s rocking it.
Oh my gosh! what perfect pumpkins to grow almost by accident! Well done 😀
HOLY PUMPKINS, BATMAN!!!!! Those are awesome!!! And I’m sooo jealous of your cuckes and tomatoes! I freakin’ love them chopped up together with some salt, balsamic and olive oil!!!!! Mmmmm! Your little punkins are quite adorable as well!
I am jelly of those big ole pumpkins!!! Good job girls!!
Love this – NOTHING tastes as good as homegrown vegetables! So proud of the girls and their pumpkins! I think this picture needs to reappear everything fall!! Way to go!
Great picture of the kids with the pumpkins (yay, Nick for suggesting it!). Congratulations to the little farmers on their haul!
I love this photo of the girls and their bounty! You and Nick are so freakin amazing at this parenting, DIY, blogging life thing!
