Tween Room – PAINT!

May 11, 2024 by Bethany Sy

If you’ve been following along on Paisley’s tween room makeover, you know she recently picked out and installed the most gorgeous wallpaper (catch up HERE)! She has known all along that she wanted to paint the trim and moulding a bold color, but she was having trouble visualizing and choosing a color. So, even though it’s easier to paint first THEN wallpaper, we’re doing things a little backwards. 🙂

But look at that wallpaper though! It’s definitely calling for something other than white trim. Amiright?

*This post is sponsored by our friends at Dutch Boy® Paints. Thank you for supporting the fabulous brands that make Reality Daydream possible!*

Given that this is Paisley’s room makeover, I am completely hands-off with the decision making. She chose the wallpaper, and by golly she’s choosing the paint color.

We headed to Menards® and Paisley spent her sweet time pouring over the Dutch Boy® Paints samples. She gathered a ton of different hues to bring home and hold up to the wallpaper before making a decision.

She wasn’t sure whether she wanted to be inspired by one of the colors from the wallpaper, or go completely rogue and choose a contrasting color and really punch you in the face. She was really thoughtful about this process, and even taped up her paint samples in different parts of the room, and observed them during different times of day/night. Because light changes everything!

She ended up deciding to punch you in the face with this vibrant cranberry color! It’s Crimson Red 302-7DB by Dutch Boy® Paints, and I think it fits her personality perfectly. After all, this room is a reflection of who SHE is! And I’m here for it

When I tell you she painted the entire thing herself, I’m not joking! I wasn’t sure how well the coverage of this deep color over white would be, but we were both shocked with how well it covered! Dutch Boy® Platinum® Plus interior paint is our go-to paint for projects like this. The coverage is ALWAYS amazing, and we love its Twist & Pour® container, which is easy to hold, easy to open and easy to pour! Truly brilliant.

At one point, I asked her if she had any regrets, and she remarked… IT’S ONLY PAINT, MOM. And I beamed with pride. 🙂

She is SO PROUD of this space, and I love seeing her thrive and do something she loves. At her age, I would have gotten a half hour into it, and then realized how much work is involved and quit halfway through. Anyone else?! 😉

Next up is curtains, rug, lighting and furniture. I hope you’ll keep following along!

That is the choice I would have made, at any age. I might have gone just a bunch lighter. But there’s no denying, it works!
