An Update

January 29, 2010 by Bethany Sy

  • I started a new job at McFarland clinic at the beginning of the month, and although it’s a difficult job, I feel like I’m catching on and eventually I hope that I will really like it!
  • We’ve been on a pretty strict budget. I try to subtly complain about it as often as possible in my postings. But really, it is exciting to see our debt getting paid down little by little. It will be so nice when we don’t have that burden anymore! Nick has a very elaborate spread sheet that he pours over every night.
  • We’ve only been snowboarding once this winter, due to the strict budget. But we talk about it daily.
  • We eat entirely too much spaghetti.
  • Nick has been excelling at his job at Fisher Controls, and has picked up an additional part-time job at Advance Auto Parts, partially for added income, and partially for the discount on all his favorite toys. If he’s not working, surely he’ll be in the garage tinkering with the vehicles. I’ll never see my husband!!
  • We are involved with a small group through our church in Marshalltown, and have really been enjoying it. Especially now that we don’t have to leave to go to bed at 8pm.
  • I currently have in-grown toenails on both of my big toes.
  • It’s been really COLD here in central Iowa, accompanied by fairly severe weather I might add. I’m not complaining, simply stating a fact.
  • Sometimes, I look at my husband and I’m overwhelmed with love. He makes me shiver.
  • Reuben freely roams the yard, day and night. We no longer confine him to his pen at all. He’s a good little pooch, even stays in the yard when Nick has to cross the road to get the mail. Usually.
  • We’ve both been pretty healthy this season, which always makes life easier and more enjoyable.
  • We would like to have a baby, but haven’t yet… for reasons unknown
  • We LOVE entertaining, and try to invite people over as often as possible. It’s selfish of us, really, because usually it means our friends and/or family need to drive a substantial distance to see us. So if we haven’t invited you over yet, it’s probably because we don’t want to ask you to drive to the middle of nowhere just for hot meal and board games.
  • Nick is growing his hair out, for no apparent reason. Sometimes it makes him look like a werewolf, and sometimes he looks downright sexy.
  • We are patiently awaiting ONE more W2 to arrive so we can do our income taxes and hopefully receive a sizable refund.
  • I love using bullet points excessively.
  • Although our home improvement projects are on hold for financial reasons, we still discuss how and what we want to do to upgrade our home in the coming months and years. Next on the agenda is sanding down the living room walls, re-mudding, and painting. Any color suggestions?

Oh my, this is such an old post! You must really be digging through our archives! 🙂

It was strange to read through this again… so much has changed since then. This was before we had even admitted publicly that we were struggling with infertility. We’ve been so blessed since then!
