Spring on the Homestead

March 28, 2012 by Bethany Sy

Something about THIS spring just seems magical. Maybe it’s because I have children to enjoy it with and make memories. Everything is so green. Life is just what it’s supposed to be.

I keep thinking about gardening, grilling, sunsets, and picnics with the little missies. But then I remember that Reuben is crazy. Like a wild animal. You wouldn’t know it by this picture though. He’s a bothersome little scoundrel. Well… not so little. But I must say that his behavior has improved over the years. Finally. It’ll be interesting to see how he is with the girls. His only interaction with them has been watching us carry them from house to car and back.

Here’s a picture of Blanche’s litter of babes. I love them. I think we might keep the fluffy black one.

My flower garden is looking pretty tragic. My mom is a master-gardener and is going to come out and help me plant some pretties. I can’t wait! I won’t have to be embarrassed of my weed-patch any longer!

And this weekend, we’re planning to do some tilling to get the veggie garden ready to go. Right now it looks like this:

We have our work cut out for us! But no matter how  much there is to get done, or how crazy our lives get… we always get to sit on our front porch and look at this in the evenings.

As far as the garden beds, you can’t go wrong with double digging. It’s a major P.I.T.A but it’s worth it in the end. My grandma gardened like this always and she had the best flowers and veggies for miles, even in Ohio farm country!

    LOVE IT!!! 🙂

Speaking from dog/baby experience, you’ll probably be pleasantly surprised! When we brought Easton and Emersyn home, we were terrified because we have a huge, crazy, hyper boxer…..she’s still huge, crazy, and hyper around everyone….but she’s GREAT with the babies! Sometimes she forgets how big she is but we remind her 🙂 Easton and Emersyn are starting to “notice” her and smile at her now 🙂 SO cute! And hey, when they’re bigger, we can get them a saddle so they can ride her. Awesome 🙂
