S&E on Pinterest

August 28, 2012 by Bethany Sy

It took me two years to give in and open up a Facebook page for Sawdust and Embryos. For a long time, I just didn’t understand why it was necessary, and it seemed like ‘just another thing’ I would need to update. But it’s turned out to be really fun, and I love posting random pictures from time to time. Your feedback is wonderful and hilarious.

Don’t expect me to ever give in to Twitter, or Instagram though.  All these social networking sites… why? I don’t even really understand Twitter, and I find #hashtags to be very #annoying.

All this to say, I’ve been thinking about Pinterest a lot lately. It’s sort of like social networking. I love seeing my ‘newsfeed’ and what my close friends have pinned recently. A lot of bloggers use their Pinterest site to promote their blog (by pinning their own work). And that has always kinda bothered me. I like to use my Pinterest Page to actually pin things that I want to remember for future reference or inspiration.

BUT, since I have a LOT more followers on Pinterest than I do on my blog or Facebook, I realized that they may not be seeing when we update the blog with a new  project, technique or tutorial. So, in the interest of letting these folks in on the action, I’ve created a ‘Sawdust and Embryos’ board on my Pinterest.

I also think it’ll kinda be fun to have a board that can serve as a ‘portfolio’ of sorts, and have all of our stuff neatly in one spot.

So as not to fill up your Pinterest newsfeed with all our previous projects, I’ll just do a few here and there. Feel free to re-pin and spread the love! Pinterest has been awesome in referring tons of readers to our blog! So when you PIN our projects, you’re doing us a favor. So THANK YOU!… ha!

If you’d like to follow us on Pinterest, click here! And for Facebook, click here! And for Twitter… JUST KIDDING! No Twitter my friends. This girl doesn’t tweet. Call me old school. I still use the number pad on my ‘vintage’ cell phone to compose text messages. #refusetogivein #simplegirl #imannoyingmyself

I recently found out about Pinterest, too. I love it because it helps me organize the things that I want to do (decorating my bedroom) and I have all of my inspirations in one place! In fact I pinned a pic of your turquoise and green end table- I’m so using that technique on my dresser(thank you)! I don’t care for Facebook, but I love Pinterest.

Honestly I love twitter because it is linear short snippets to draw me into cool things to pin. I prefer it to facebook which just a jumble with no way to search or find what I want logically. Instagram is growing on me as well. I love pinterest which actually got me using google reader to keep track of blogs that are cool to pin from.

I’ve found so many awesome blogs on Pinterest in my search for cloth diaper patterns and tutorials! I just recently gave in to getting a pinterest account and use it to save tutorials/ideas (my husband was going insane over the # of sites saved to my bookmark bar, lol). I think it’s a great idea to have a board for your blog 🙂

Oh man, I have never gotten into Pinterest because frankly, I can’t figure it out! I get lost just clicking and following things! Sometimes I venture over to check things out. Like today, I went and looked at your page and found the Gus & Lula blog and read and CRIED for hours!!! Such a sweet family. I will be adding them to my daily reading as well! 🙂

I started following your Pinterest board. I have to say, I LOVE Pinterest. You can find some really neat ideas and recipes on there. And I like that it’s kind of a landing zone for all the things that I want to remember. I agree with you about all the others – I still do not have a Facebook and I’m not even sure what Twitter is. I do have Instagram though and I have to say that I love it for the things you can do to edit pictures. I’m one of those “if I have a “social networking” whatever, it’s set to private and I’ll only accept you if I know you” type of people. So I have like, 10 followers – almost all family and a couple of friends. Otherwise, if I want to keep in touch with someone/they want to keep in touch with me – call! =]

I just cannot, CANNOT and WILL NOT become a tweeter, twitterer, whatever they are. Facebook is pushing it for me and if I could not change my settings to only allow friends to see my stuff I would be off there…in an instagram!!

I love your blog! I have been inspired to create again and recently finished a redo of my grandmother’s buffet and hutch. We reused all of it, buffet, hutch and doors. I would love to share the pics with you, but not sure how.

I really hate #hashtags too. I don’t get them, I don’t know why you have to use them – It’s annoying to type words together – instead of using a space like YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO!

I tried to put that together in one, and gave up – I’m trained to write correctly for gosh sakes!!!

Thanks for not using them! 🙂

I couldn’t agree more! Twitter, Instagram, etc etc – why? Blogs, Pinterest and Facebook are MORE THAN ENOUGH in my opinion – and I too use my old school number pad on my cell phone to text as well 🙂

LOVE all your furniture redos and your GORGEOUS land – your website is my inspiration for redoing my entire yard and collecting furniture to go crazy next spring!!
