Hey guys! I’m Paisley, and I’m 12 years old! If you do not know this already, I have been making over the teeny tiny bathroom downstairs. I had been itching to do something creative, and my parents set me loose to give it a makeover! It’s been such a fun project, and I hope you’ve enjoyed the process as much as I have.

Source List:
- Floral wallpaper (the exact print I used is no longer available, but Photo Wall still has a TON of good options!)
- Hexagon peel and stick floor tiles
- Chandelier
I peeled all of those dirty wallpapers off of the wall, giving me a clean slate…
…and gave the bathroom floor a completely new look. LOL!
After that I struggled for a super long time debating whether I should paint, or wallpaper. I decided to paint the chair rail and down white, and find wallpaper after.
I know exactly what you’re thinking. “Paisley, you’re such a hot mess with your pants inside out.” BUT! I do have a defense. I was painting and I didn’t want paint to show on the outside of my shorts, so I turned them inside out. Anyway, I thought I had my wallpaper figured out until I found this super pretty floral wallpaper. I had to have it! (unfortunately this exact print is no longer available. I’m so sorry!)
I knew it was the one, and we ordered it immediately. It came within a matter of a few days days, and as soon as it came I literally squealed, and ran with it to the kitchen to grab a pair of scissors and slice the box open to see what it looked like in real life.
It was my first time putting up wallpaper, so my Mom assisted in helping with all the things.
We mixed together a nasty jelly-looking substance together in a bowl and then slathered it onto the wall, pasted the wallpaper on and stood back to take a look. (It took around 3 hours!)
Looking back, standing on that toilet lid was not the best idea. I’m glad I didn’t get hurt!
As I was wallpapering, I managed to look down an was astounded at what I saw, the dirty peeling peel-and-stick tiles from a hundred years ago screaming at me, “HELP PAISLEY I LOOK TERRIBLE.” It doesn’t help that I was pretty careless when I was painting the walls/trim white.
And so I did some research and found some beautiful black peel and stick tile that can be installed right over the existing flooring. I love the hexagon pattern!
Isn’t it so pretty??? Since the majority of the remodeling was done, I started looking forward to the decorating. First off was the mirror. I debated for a while what mirror to use, whether one we already had or if to buy one. It came to me eventually, I had a perfect, secondhand mirror in my room.
My friend and I (Thanks Mer!) taped around the inside of the mirror. Next step was to glaze. I had wanted to glaze the mirror from the beginning, to give it a natural-looking patina.
We painted on regular latex paint, wiped it off with a cloth before it dried, and it came out with the perfect old look I was looking for. We hung it and it looked so good! I knew that we needed something else in the room to bring out the black in the nooks and crannies of this new accessory.
Then there was a pause in my creativity, and we didn’t get to anything for a couple weeks. That’s just part of the creative process sometimes though, am I right?
During this pause, I was in my mom’s studio. If you remember, a couple years back, my mom did a cool oval mural with shelves in the middle. Check out my mom’s tutorial for this mural here!
I took those shelves right there, (yes, I totally just yanked them off the wall) and painted them black, my creativity spurt found again. We hung them.
And then there was the matter of the lighting. I just hated the round oval light we’d gotten a few years back to replace the dying light there before. It was too simple and I didn’t like that it didn’t fit the house. It took me a really long time to find a small chandelier that I liked. We have so many chandeliers in our house, I felt that this chandelier was perfect for our bathroom. It matches with the historical era of our house!
And…. Are you ready for it? The final reveal? Unless you’ve already seen it on instagram, on which case, are you ready to see it again?
*drumroll*
I even styled these shelves by myself! Can you tell which plant is real and which one is fake?!
I’m so proud of it. I’m so glad that my Mom let me have this opportunity. I know so many things that I didn’t know before, and it was such a great mother / daughter bonding experience.
Thank you for following along!
UPDATE! I’ve started on my next room makeover!! Come follow along!

How Wonderful! Good on you Bethany for encouraging your daughter. She might be needing her own YouTube channel. 🙂 I watch DIY Wife and he husband runs courses on how best to get ahead. I’m not affiliated with them, but it might be a fun idea for her to learn technology as well as DIY and learn how to tie it together as a business. 🙂
