Hi! Paisley here! As you know, I’ve been giving my half of the bedroom an overhaul. And today is the day for the reveal! But first, let’s recap…
This is a before picture. We sadly didn’t get one before we taped out where the picture frame molding would be.
We got this picture frame molding from Amazon, and it worked really well! It was super easy when we had the right tools. They came in big rolls and all we had to do was cut, peel, and stick onto the wall. Full tutorial and product links here!
It was a long but surprisingly satisfying project, once I got past the fear of chopping my fingers off. The result was so much more than I could have imagined, and it went together flawlessly.
Once all of the picture frame molding pieces were up and sticking to the wall, we needed to caulk the lines so it looked neat, clean, and put together. Another task that was super easy, just press and wipe! And I mean a lot. You need to wipe a lot. Full tutorial and product links here!
It took a long time, but finally a part of my room was done. And I don’t think the over all impression would be the same without these things. If you like your rooms to look like they come from back in the day, this is the trick.
We decided to do wallpaper first because I still wasn’t exactly sure what paint color I had in mind for the chair rail and trim. Photowall is the wallpaper brand I used because when I did the powder room downstairs, the wallpaper came from them and it was gorgeous. I chose this wallpaper:
Isn’t it so pretty!? I love it. We got the package with the wallpaper and all the needed supplies to put it up. We got started pretty much right away.
Stirring up wallpaper paste gave me so much deja vu. I had serious flashbacks to my bathroom wallpaper project. We lathered the walls with the wallpaper paste that was included with the wallpaper using a paint roller, and then up went the paper.
It went up so smoothly. The bathroom was harder because it was so tiny and the walls were so close together, but my bedroom was a whole other world of ease.
Once I got started, I didn’t need as much help and worked on it all day! It was amazing to see it come together before my own eyes.
I’ve only ever seen my room one color, that I can remember, so seeing it like this made me feel like I was floating.
But really, it’s Remi who makes the room.
Picking out paint colors was probably one of my favorite parts. I had a large variety of colors I wanted to try, ranging from green to red and almost every color in between. Eventually, I narrowed it down to about 10 colors, and left them taped to the wall for a week to see which one I liked best.
I did this technique for my favorites, holding them up to the wallpaper and trying to make up my mind, and this cranberry red color won out. It pops against the purple in the wallpaper, and it’s a bold (and moody) choice. It fit my personality perfectly. 😉 The exact color is Crimson Red by Dutch Boy.
And so we painted. It took a long time and a while for me to realize that you don’t cover up the entire wall first coat, but I got there. Painting is therapeutic!
I got some cheap frames at the thrift store and spray painted them gold so they would al look cohesive for my gallery wall. I also used w gold wire basket from Target as a chandelier! Repurposing at it’s finest.
We got the antique bed from Facebook marketplace because all good things live there.
I hope you like it! It took a lot of work but I’m proud of myself for working hard. I don’t work hard in a lot of things, mainly math, but this was something I loved to push myself for, and I hope I can do it again in another room soon!

Hi Paisley
My name’s Judi and I live in the UK. Like you, from a very early age I’ve enjoyed painting and decorating, but don’t think I’d have dared to tackle such a big project on my own at your age. You’ve done an amazing job and I love your choice of wallpaper with that deep red. Absolutely beautiful. Well done! I look forward to seeing more posts from you as time goes on.
