From the very beginning, I knew for sure I wanted a Jenny Lind crib for the babes. I just love the detail. After being very patient, we finally found this crib on craigslist (for $40!!!)… how perfect?!
Beings that it was built in 1985, we were thorough in our investigation regarding safety regulations… knowing we may have to perform some modifications. But it turns out that this baby meets all the criteria! Lucky!
According to CPSC regulations, here’s the breakdown:
- Slats should be no more than 2 3/8 inches wide.
- The mattress should be firm and tight fitting.
- Corner posts should be no more than 1/16 inches high.
- No design cutouts in the headboard or footboard.
- No missing, broken, or loose-fitting hardware.
So we (and by we I mean Nick) gave her a sleek coat of glossy black paint. And finished her off with some Poly to seal everything in.
I know you may be thinking black doesn’t immediately imply femininity… but you’ll see. Oh baby you’ll see.
How can you not love this detail?!
Yes, the girls will be sharing a crib until further notice. It’s a small room. 🙂

You should be able to just pop if or slide if off the end if the crib is disassembled. What color are you painting it?!
Loving your blog! I just found a jenny lind in Oak on a resale site. I am going to paint it as well – but I just wondered about the plastic strip across the top rail (I’m guessing for baby biting and teeth marks) Did your’s come with this and if so, what did you find was the best way to remove it?

I’m not trying to nit-pick and don’t know how much of a danger actually exists, (and I also don’t know how old this post is) but it’s my understanding that cribs are no longer made with drop-down sides. I assume there’s a reason for that. It might be worth looking into. Your girls (and their nursery) are beautiful, though.

That is a beautiful crib; Some great deals on craigslist. I started searching for kitchen cabinets for my daughter’s old house…amazing what is out there from remodels.
