Going lighter in the Master Bedroom

February 9, 2016 by Bethany Sy

Today I’m here to share with you some details about how THINGS ARE HAPPENING in the bedroom!

Master Bedroom {Reality Daydream}

Get your head out of the gutter! What I mean is that a little overhaul is happening. Goodbye dark dungeon gray!

Painting a dark room white again! {Reality Daydream}

Don’t get me wrong, there was a part of me that loved that moody color for our master bedroom. And a handful of you might even remember when we painted it that color a few years ago! But I never loved the purple-ish tint that it had. And I’ve been yearning for something bright and happy!

Beauty is pain.

Normally, Nick rolls and I cut in around the edges with a brush… and we can knock out a room in no time at all. Neither one of us really enjoys painting walls, but at least we’re together and it gets done fast.

BUT!

In addition to Nick’s full-time job, he’s also going back to school full-time as well, so I’m very careful about asking him to help with things that I’m certainly capable of doing myself. So I put on my big-girl panties and just went for it!

Paint a dark room white! {Reality Daydream}

I was dreading the idea of mannnny coats to cover that deep color, but it ended up only taking two coats! It was worth spending a few extra dollars for high quality paint this time around. I used straight-up white paint in the Emerald line by Sherwin Williams.

We have some really exciting things planned for this room! And one of the biggest changes is that we’re changing up the layout of the room by swapping the bed from the east wall to the west wall. I’ve got some devious plans floating around in my little head for a really awesome accent wall here (and ironically, the other side of this wall is the Patchwork Herringbone Accent Wall in the twins’ big girl room!

New room transformation by Reality Daydream!

I’m still unsure about what exactly will be going on with the other side of the room, but for now leaning toward a seating area and storage for lots o’ books. Annnnd, I’m toying with the idea of painting the trim something OTHER than white. (whaaaa? right?!)

This room transformation will be a slow process, but I’m so excited to see it unfold!

    These painted trim inspirations are certainly cool. I painted an all white room last year about this time, though, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It feels so fresh and clean and bright every time I walk in.

    I would paint the trim, something in grey so your bedding and accessories will not clash if you change them out. Also why not plank a wall or the ceiling with reclaimed wood. You have an old farm house that need something planked…:)

    I’m going for a similar look as in the picture 5 for my living room and pretty much entire downstairs. Just have to get the wall texture off first, prep the wall (oh how I dread that part) and paint. Just am so over the white trim everywhere 🙂

    I think you should definitely paint the trim, otherwise it disappears. My favorites are 2, 4, and 8. This will be fun to watch!

    I personally like 1, 3 and 7; however, you could do some amazing things with 4. I love kelly green with navy, and a splash of yellow or gold.

    Tis the season for bedroom painting! We just moved and have a slightly…interesting situation in our bedroom. Our walls are the color of cookie dough and have a shelf for a railroad track going all the way around the ceiling. Then there are the two holes in the wall to of course continue the train track into our second bedroom. I’m thinking tear down the shelves and go white. I never thought of painting the trim though. That first dusty robin’s egg color looks so soft and romantic. I’m a fan of it!
