I’ve been quiet, both here on the blog and in real life. After a week of weird symptoms, urgent care, ER visits, and a myriad of tests… we finally have some answers. I’m not sure how dramatic to be about it, because there is a lot of conflicting information out there, but I have Lyme’s Disease.
And it totally sucks.
I’m have no idea what to expect in the coming weeks, so I don’t know how this will affect my creativity or posting schedule here on the blog. At this point, I’m just trying to figure out how to take care of my family and myself while Nick is at work.
Speaking of Nick, he’s been such a champ through this. Being super-dad while also managing meals, laundry, dishes, AND bringing me various things that I need. He’s a treasure for sure. My sister has also stepped up and helped out too, and I’m so grateful.
Since Lyme Disease was something I was unfamiliar with before it actually happened to me, I feel compelled to tell you that the ticks that carry Lyme’s Disease are a fraction of the size of your average wood tick. We see ‘wood ticks’ all the time on our acreage, and I find them disgusting. But at least they’re visible. I thought all ticks looked like that. I had no idea that there was a much smaller… much more terrifying tick.
I don’t mean to strike fear in you, but I at least wish I had known to be looking for ticks that might be the size of a poppy seed. So I’m sharing the knowledge with the above handy graphic using my girls’ playdough (penny for scale). #themoreyouknow
So in the words of Ana from Frozen ‘You don’t have to live in feeeear’ …but also in the words of Brad Paisley ‘I’d like to check you for ticks’
Since I share everything about everything here on the blog, I thought ya’ll might as well know what’s happening in my life. I’ve got a few projects that are finished and waiting in the queue, so I’ll be back soon! Till then… picture me laying on the couch.

Oh Bethanny I had no idea you were going through this. You are now my 4th friend to be diagnosed with Lyme Disease (all in the 25-40 age range). Ugh. Please know you are in my prayers. Anything I can help with? Seriously?
oh no. I hope you get to feeling better soon. Take care of yourself and take it slow for the near future. All the best!
Feel better soon, Beth!!
Comment number 2: All these stories and comments show just how much your followers love and care about you. I’m sure you are taking care and getting proper medical attention. Just know we all wish you a full recovery and you will be back to yourself in no time. This will be just blink in your life to look back at before you know it! Hugs and comfort from Oklahoma!
What in the world?? How?? Are they in the house?? The garden?? I know nothing about Lyme Disease. I’m glad you got a diagnosis and on your way to feeling better. On a lighter note, Did you cut your hair? You look gorgeous in the photo. Hoping you are up and at ’em soon…Ain’t nobody got time for that!
I think that’s Beth’s sister 🙂
I had Lyme Disease last summer. My doctor sent me to a dermatologist who diagnosed it right away and gave me antibiotics for 10 days. He also sent me multiple times for blood and cardio tests and also did skin biopsies on the areas with spots. The tests pre antibiotics were and biopsies were positive for Lyme Disease and those afterwards negative. So if you got antibiotics right away you should be OK. I never found any ticks but developed spots aggressively (first 2, then 6, etc within a week).
Sorry to hear that Beth! I know you will be fine! Try to see yourself healthy and vibrant in your mind….You will come out of it very soon. There is Nothing your body cannot recover from. Faith! Sending you good vibes! Tali
That sucks, I’m so sorry! I’ll definitely be thinking about you and hoping you feel better and stay vibrant!
My sister in CA was finally diagnosed with it after months of searching for a diagnosis several years ago. She finally sought out Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment, she swears it saved her. Just an unsolicited medical story, but you never know who will benefit. Take care of you and yours. I wish you a full and speedy recovery!
I’m so sorry you’re going through this! My husband had Lyme Disease way back when it was barely a known thing. Luckily, thanks to an article in Field & Stream, they figured it out and caught it just in time. He made a full recovery and leads a completely normal life (whatever normal is…ha!). Prayers that you will make a full recovery!!!
I have everything crossed, and hope Crystal is right that you can recover. Meantime, take it easy!! XXX
Hopefully you caught it early. It’s very treatable if caught early. My daughter is will 5 this friday has had it twice. I told my husband, one more time and we are moving!!!! Errr. After a few days on the antibotic she was back to normal. Praying for a speedy recovery.
Rest up and get yourself well soon!! Lyme Disease really takes you down for the count 🙁
