Eeek! Today is such an exciting day! I was invited by Stephanie at Casa Watkins Living to participate in the My Home Style Blog Hop – Christmas Tree Edition! A big group of stylish home decor bloggers are each sharing their Christmas tree… decorated in their own style or theme! SO FUN.
If you’re coming over from Tasha’s blog, Kaleidoscope Living …welcome to our chaos!
Let me start by saying that I’ve NEVER been a blogger to decorate my Christmas tree with anything but a mish-mash of sentimental ornaments, and random kid crafts. Partly because I JUST LOVE IT THAT WAY. And partly because… I’m a little intimidated to make a tree look so chic and perfect like it belongs in a magazine! Terrifying!
But having the entryway that we do, I reeeeally wanted to try a long/skinny tree up next to the curved stairway. And when King of Christmas wanted to collaborate and was willing to send me a pre-lit tree in the exact measurements I needed, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to have two trees! One family/sentimental tree, and one fancier tree! (use my coupon code REALITYDAYDREAM at King of Christmas for 10% off!)
We started out with a bunch of round bulb ornaments in gold and aqua that I snagged on sale at Hob Lob. Truthfully that’s the only thing that I bought for this tree. Everything else was made or ‘gathered’.
I had some v random sprigs of artificial flowers from various corners of the house. Bright orange floral, lambs ear, and even some pussy willow that I took straight of my fall mantel.
In true Reality Daydream fashion, I got my kids involved! I commissioned each of the twins to make something specific for the tree. Paisley made a bunch of wooden snowflake ornaments on the scroll saw out of 1/8″ basswood. And Della used an entire skein of fluffy yarn to make me a garland using finger crochet. I love how creative and talented my 8-year-olds are!!
They were delighted to be a part of it. And I was delighted to save money on adding more components to the tree.
Also, it’s JUST SO MUCH MORE MEANINGFUL now! And I love it.
I posted this pic to my Instagram the other day, and in the caption I joked that ‘Nobody ever accused me of having a Farmhouse Style‘ …LOL!
Eclectic, Gathered and Handmade are 3 perfect ways to describe my style in general. So Christmas decor just couldn’t be any different, or I’d feel like a fraud!
It was so fun putting this together with my girls, and I love seeing how proud they are. When people walk in our front door, this Christmas tree is the first thing they see. And I love the WOW-factor!
Now I have to ask… what’s YOUR style? Does it reflect in your Christmas decor too? Do you buy or DIY? There’s no wrong answer! You do you!
Thanks so much for stopping by, and be sure to head over to my friend Heather at The Heathered Nest to see her PINK Winter Wonderland tree!
My friends all rocked their own style of Christmas decor, and I hope you go check out their gorgeous Christmas trees by clicking through the links below. There’s sooooo much eye-candy inspiration!
