Audrey Hepburn Jewelry Armoire

April 17, 2012 by Bethany Sy

This is the second of four pieces of furniture that Brenda dropped off for us to nurture and love.

If you’re like me, you think it’s pretty darn fancy just to even OWN a sweet enormous jewelry armoire. Or better yet, to even HAVE enough jewelry to require a piece of furniture to house all of it! Jealous!

So Brenda had seen an armoire similar to her own, only it was chic and WHITE… and had a stencil of Audrey Hepburn on the front! So Brenda went out and immediately ordered a vinyl in the same exact Audrey Hepburn design, with plans to someday make her jewelry armoire similarly swanky.   …and then she never got to it! So she hooked us up with the vinyl, and let us do our thing.

The hardest part was taking the whole thing apart and meticulously taping things off to protect the soft velvety inside. We primed and painted white!

After assembling everything back together, we brought ‘er inside and got comfortable on the living room floor…

And started peeeeeling back the top sheet on the vinyl.

P4153459

Then we lined everything up where we wanted it, and pressed down!

P4153463

Using a razor blade, we carefully sliced out the strip of vinyl between the door and the drawer.

P4153464

And then we slowly peeled of the paper to reveal a super glossy sleek silhouette!
HELLO Audrey!

P4153470

We took that strip we had sliced off, and applied it on the narrow strip behind the door and drawer! That way the design wouldn’t have a gap there, and will appear to flow seamlessly all the way down!

Annnnnnd… YEP! That’s it!

Just a quick little revamp!

My friend Dana cuts all our vinyls for us (dashoop@hotmail.com)… she didn’t do this particular one (the client already had the vinyl), but I’m sure she could replicate it. You should email her!

Our vinyl ‘dealer’ Dana is amazing and can cut anything for you! She just rolls the final sheet up in a tube and pops it in the mail to you. Her email is dashoop (at) hotmail.com. Her prices are excellent too! Tell her I sent you!

Niki, we live about 1.5 hours from Iowa City. We have a waiting list for furniture, but let us now if/when you’d like to get on the list!

Renee, we get our smooth finish by lightly sanding after priming and between coats of paint to knock down the gritty texture. We do use spray paint.

Lori C, the placement of the hardware was just a happy accident. It totally DOES look like a bracelet! I hadn’t even noticed. 🙂

Love it! However, I do have a question for you two. How do you get your paint so smooth? It seems like everything I paint seems to have little lumps and bumps in it. Do you always use spray paint? Let me in on your secret.

Wow is right! This is gorgeous! Once I’m done with school and actually have some income, I have a few pieces I would love your help on. Our daughters dresser and nightstand could use some serious help (among others)! I feel like being a designer as well that I should do it myself, but your work is SO amazing and I really stink at refinishing furniture! How far are you from Iowa City. I’ve been a loyal blog follower for a couple of years, so I know your not too far from us, but it’s far enough that it would take some planning to bring you some pieces.
