Wall Progress

October 12, 2012 by Bethany Sy

I’m feeling a lot like I owe you an update on our living room wall. It’s been a little while since I eloquently revealed the demolition of the barrier between our living room and dining room.

Let’s review a bit, shall we?

I was flipping through some old pictures of the dining room (because I took all the ‘before pics’ of the wall on the living room side), and I found this picture from the day we moved in… HA! (Yikes?)

Here’s a somewhat more recent photo so you can see more clearly that bizarre bump-out in the wall.

After living with a half-demolished wall for 6+ months…

…we finally decided to take the plunge and rip that thing out. Now I have a great view of my messy living room from not only the dining room, but the kitchen as well!

It was (and IS) messier than I prefer. But I’m keeping the end-goal in mind. (to see my sweet rendering of that, see this post!)

SO, if you’ve been joining us for this wild journey, you know this is where we left off. The next matter needing addressed is the duct work… cause let’s be honest, it’s getting cold. Here’s a little visual of what needs to happen with the duct work in order for us to have heat upstairs again.

No biggie, right?

Nick’s dad went home a LONG time ago, so it’s all on him now… and he loves being a problem-solver!

I’ve been a little lazy at taking photos of each step, but my smokin-hot man-boy has completely framed in the duct work and arches!

… next on the agenda is wiring and drywall!

So that’s where we stand!

And now you won’t feel as anxious all weekend, wondering how our wall debacle is coming along. Do you feel so informed? Are you judging me after seeing how messy my house is in most of these pictures? That’s ok with me!

I love what you’re doing with that wall. I married a carpenter/roofer and can’t get him to do any of it..lol loan me yours..
AS for your messy house, forget about it. I had 3 boys, took in 5 foster sons and 2 foster daughters.. kids don’t remember whose house is the cleanest, or the fanciest, or even the biggest, they remember where they were comfortable, accepted and loved… and this is why now that mine are grown for the most part, and my husband and I are down to 1 teenager, we thought a smaller house would be good..oh so wrong. It is nothing for me to come home to 4 or 5 of the boys or girls hanging here with their kids and sometimes I have 9 people sleeping in a two bedroom home..lol and I wouldn’t change a thing.

Love that arch, Nick. Now I’m wondering if you are going to make some kind of storage doors up there…

It looks great! You’re inspiring me to take a break from studying this weekend and revisit a couple projects that I have abandoned since the start of fall semester. Really awesome idea to remove the wall, I love big, open spaces!

Looking Great! You have to lighten up on the house work, two babies to chase down, and all the projects you do!

Quiet down cobwebs, dust go to sleep, I’m rocking my babies, and babies don’t keep!

    remember that. Mary in NY

Yay! It’s all coming together! I am happy for you! We had some family living with us for awhile so it was hard to work on home projects, but now that the house is ours again we can start getting stuff done!

Oh darling… My living room is easily twice as messy as yours. Our toys are NOT organized, I just have one big basket I try to keep them all in. The Twin-Z (double boppy), 2 Bumbos, and couch cushions are blocking my brick hearth because 9 months later, I STILL haven’t baby-proofed it… We have an Exersaucer on one side of our entertainment center and a swing on the other. Not to mention the two bouncy seats hiding behind the couch (read: half-way in my dining room, which my couch separates from the living room)and the Johnny Jump-Up hanging in the doorway. Hahahaha! Oh live with babes….

P.S. I freakin’ love your arches. They are gorgeous!

Thanks for sharing! I love to see the progress and remember that life continues in the midst of a remodel. What mess?! It is not a mess if you can pick it up in 20 minutes or less.
