Ma’s Desk

August 19, 2010 by Bethany Sy

If you’re new here,  subscribe to our email list so you get updates each time we post! And be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest for ALL THE inspiration!

You may remember this little beauty my mom picked up at a garage sale? Well I’m proud to announce that I finally finished one of my ‘projects!’ The thing about painting is that it usually takes several coats (not to mention sanding and priming), so I like to keep lots of projects in the works!

I took my inspiration from this necklace from Anthropologie… I wish I owned this necklace.

Then I taped off the faces of the drawers and drew on a flowery swirly design with a pencil and painted away while simultaneously watching an episode of Dexter with my loved ones. Ya can’t blame a girl for multitasking!

And this is how she turned out!!

These knobs I stole from my dad’s crummy dresser in the garage where he keeps motor oil and tools. They were WAY too cool to be on an old chipping-paint, rotting-away-in-the-garage type of dresser. And they’re super vintage!

So there you have it! What projects have you guys been up to lately??

Be sure to check out all my other furniture transformations, and take a tour of our eclectic home and acreage here!

Hi Jen, we use Minwax Polycrylic and either brush it on or roll it on. But I’m sure there’s spray-versions too!

When you cover it with water based poly is that a spray or do you paint it on? What brand do you use?

yep! just cheap-o acrylic tubes of paint! and then slap on some water-based poly (so it’s not tinted yellow by oil base).

Oh that looks so good!!!! I adore the colors, and I really like the dot details you added to the scrolls.

PS I really like your baseboards. That might sound wierd but my husband won’t let me replace ours with tall ones so I always notice other people’s.
