For the past year (ish) since we put up the board and batten in the living room, I’ve been pondering the perfect paint job for what should go above it. I knew I wanted pattern, but that’s about the extent of it.
But Nick is FINALLY finishing up what used to be our wall, but is now what we call ‘the arches’, I’m starting to get serious about making some decisions.
The truth is, just about ANYTHING would be better than the current offensive yellow walls. The best way to describe them is… well something you’d see in a mental institution, maybe (not that I would know… or DO i)? Or in a heavy smoker’s home.
Yep, I picked that color out too! Speaking of mental institution, I may not have been at the top of my game when I made that decision.
There’s a point here, I promise!
I think I’ve made a decision… and whipped up this little ‘wall mood board’ so I can visualize it.
The wall will be gray, and the leaf pattern will be metallic gold.
I like that it will have some flair and glam with the gold, but the whole thing will still be very neutral and won’t be too obnoxious… (What with the orange accents at all)!
Since the kitchen is dark teal, and we have the dining room to worry about as well (repainting soon as well), we don’t want things to get too busy, or too colorful… with all three rooms flowing into each other.
Here’s a little reminder of how you can see the whole downstairs (almost).
Remember when I drew that rendering (above) the wall was still in place? Nick did a pretty darn good job making it look EXACTLY like this! What a stud muffin.
I would consider showing you a real life picture from the same exact vantage point so you could truly compare, but that would require picking up a lot of baby toys. I neither have the energy, nor the emotional stability to ‘bare it all’ today.
OH! And there are curtains in the works to! So excited for my living room to finally start coming together! Soon we’ll be talking about FURNITURE… yay!
Get excited!

Enjoy your remodeling. I love reading your blog. Especially since our twins and my daughter are about the same age (and then we have a five month old). I know what you mean about picking up those toys!
Hi!
Ever since I stenciled the stair risers in my home- I have become obsessed! I even made my stencils myself. Good luck! It’s tedious but so worth it!

Love the “Cityscape”. I am looking for a gray to paint my son’s room. Maybe a shade lighter for his room because of the size.
I’m really excited to see the stencil. I love gold these days. It will look so beautiful when the sun shines on it. Your arches look so so fancy! I love it. The lighting in it is terrific!
