Kim V’s Backsplash

March 28, 2011 by Bethany Sy

This weekend, two things of interest happened:

  • We painted two backsplashes.
  • I biffed it on our concrete driveway carrying in groceries. Here’s the story… On my 11th and final trip to the Jeep to get the last few bags, I grabbed two handfuls of bags and set one handful down on the driveway so I could close the trunk. And as I moved out of the way so the trunk wouldn’t hit my head, I backed up right into the bags of groceries and fell backwards landing on my backside and my elbow. I wish I had a belly monitor that I could strap on and check in on the girls from time to time to make sure they’re ok. It would have a portable ultrasound wand and digital screen, with speakers to hear heartbeats. Next best thing is First Nurse, who said I (and the girls) should be fine as long as I didn’t fall ON my stomach. And so long as there’s no cramping or bleeding. So  far so good.

As for backsplashes, the time has come when we cannot post ALL our completed backsplashes on the blog. There are just too many, and we don’t want to “Bog up the Blog!” Lately we’ve been painting 2-3 every weekend! CRAZY!

Kim had a very specific plan for how she wanted her backsplash, and we were happy to oblige. She’s a lover of bright colors, and owner of all things Fiesta-Ware… and wanted her backsplash to stand out and have some serious personality.

Taped her off:

Check out my murky dishwater-blond situation.

I think we effectively accomplished this kitchen’s need for personality. And huge shout-out to Nick, who, without my help, painted all the colorful accent tiles by his lonesome because somebody forgot to bring her respirator mask and spent an hour sitting in the car waiting… not helping. Because it was Latex wall paint (and not acrylic), I just didn’t feel comfortable endangering my unborn offspring.

We love how brave Kim is with color! It may not be everyone’s first choice, but it’s so fun to do something a little bit different! And Kim can definitely say the NOBODY has a backsplash like hers.

And now for the rest of this Monday, I’m gonna take it easy. Me and the ladies are putting ourselves on self-induced bedrest. A gift to my Cervix.

I fell flat on my backside on an ice-covered driveway while carrying my twins. I was 5 months gestation. Everything and everybody where just fine. Just like the dr said, as long as there are no cramps, etc., take it easy and enjoy the ‘belly bump’ while you can still see your feet! : )

    It looks great!
Also, I tripped over the dog and wiped out in a parking lot while I was pregnant. The doctor assured me I would have to have really injured myself for it to even slightly hurt the baby…there is lots to protect it!
