PROS
~You bump into your doctor at least once a day, and can chit-chat about your hemorrhoids without having to pay a copay.
~Your gas and electric bill will be very low that month.
~You have a lactation nurse literally two doors down, who, although you’re not a patient anymore, checks in with you daily and is dedicated to helping you figure out your mammary issues and produce enough milk for two little sucklings.
~Your baby(ies) are already on a schedule before you get home.
~Diapers and formula are included in the daily NICU bill (see Cons).
~During your recovery from delivery/c-section, you have several nurses to help you care for your young.
~Instead of trying to decide if your baby’s infliction warrants calling Ask A Nurse, you can literally turn around and ask any one of the 3 nurses within a 10 foot radius.
CONS
~You don’t have the luxury of pooping out a baseball size turd in the comfort of your own home.
~Your bed is also your couch, your kitchen table, your desk, and your pumping station.
~There are no laundry facilities available for your use.
~You’re spending $2,000 a day on daycare.
~Your room is about the size of a large-ish bathroom.
~You live on Easy Mac and Little Debbies.
~It just isn’t home.
.
Oh honey. You may already be home because I am just that far behind, but I wished I lived closer to give you a hug and tell you that as slow as this time passes, it goes really fast too. And then you will be wishing that you had all that help again. And while it is not home, it is for now. Love it and make the most of it. Praying for those babies to learn to love to eat.
You have such a great attitude–a trait that will serve you well as a Mommy of twins!!:)
Hope you’re home soon..how fun that will be!!
I tried to email you the other day but its not allowing me to send it 🙁 I have a bunch of news for you! Let’s just say we can share our NICU experiences.
This is Emily (chick who emailed you about dresser revamps)
I laughed out loud at “baseball size turd.”
All of this will provide funny stories to share with friends and family for years to come… hang in there!
Hopefully today! We’ve been praying!
Within a year, these will be faded memories because of the two little misses you will have home running around you. What you do remember will be your “war stories” to share with yout girlfriends over wine on “mommy’s night out”.
I promise you, it does get better!
Hang in there Mommy & Daddy. . .you are almost home.
My mother-in-law has always had the best words of wisdom; “This too, shall pass”. I have actually learned to embrace some of the crazy stuff we have had to endure because of her words. Time goes so fast. These days will soon be a fond memory. You will be home with your little darlings before no time.
I had the c section and the same “problem” I sat and cried in the bathroom and was screaming in pain with my husband at the door, so embarrassed. LOL. I wish I’d of had a lactation consultant to help me that way! I’m surprised your girls are still in the nicu, my lo was 34 wks but didn’t require any help even though she was low weight. I hope you all go home soon!
hahaha I love your pros and cons list! I had to eventually go to a gastroenterologist for my hemorrhoids that I’ve had for OVER A YEAR and I’ll probably have to get surgery to fix it! It’s insane. Preparation H will be your friend! LOL
Just say, thank god for insurance if you have it! And I hope you have great insurance! Our son’s NICU stay cost over 400k (he’s actually still racking up those bills with his physical therapy, weekly drs visits, and just until last week, O2 at home!) and our daughter’s cost over 150k! My little boy had a lot of issues with his lungs but our daughter was a super girl and she still cost that much.
It was soo nice having the babies in the NICU while I was recovering from the c-section and the schedule that they were on was AMAZING until they decided it wasn’t for them anymore at 4 months 🙂
do they charge for each baby? or is there a twofer deal?
aww you poor thing! Praying for you to get home soon. At least you are finding some positive and humor in the situation 🙂
