I know I know, I’m totally not posting anything remotely creative this week. Borrrring.
Sorry about that… BUT! I’m so excited to show you my new little toy! I’ve always wanted one of these!
We’re in no way affiliated with Sherwin Williams, but we’ve had good experience with their paint. And Nick got me my very own fan deck (did you know they were called that?) from them on my birthday! He just marched into one of their stores, and asked if they had any! I think they’re like $12 or something. I’m not guaranteeing we’ll be using their paints exclusively or anything like that, but it’s so nice to have such a large color selection to hold up to items why trying to decide on a color for a piece of furniture or wall. We can have it color-matched in any brand! Everyone should have one!
Sooooo pretty!
We’re just finishing up a piece of furniture, and we used Sherwin Williams’ ‘Grandview’ on it. It’s such a beautiful creamy green. Stick around for that next week!
Today is the last day to enter our Retract-A-Gate giveaway, so get your entry in if you haven’t already! I’ll be posting our winner tomorrow. Chiao!

Oh, and the one thing to be aware of is that if you do get large designer samples they will sometimes ask that you agree to be contacted by your local rep. They will come to you and honestly it can be a good thing since they can set you up with get you set up to recieve a designer discount as well. Actually, you might be able to get a designer discount even jsut going into the store and telling them you’re a designer, as long as you have something with your business info to verify you are the owner of a design business. We get pretty good discounts at most professional level businesses like that, which can sometimes make up for the extra cost of using their higher priced products.

Yes, you’d be amazing how much companies will send you if you ask. I got my design degree from Kirkwood in CR and one of our assignments was to get green samples of “green” products from any company that produced green design products. Some companies are stingy and wouldn’t send to us since we were students, but we all still got dozens of samples from everything you can imagine, recycled glass countertops to swatch rings of fabrics or veneers, to huge flooring samples books. Once you have an established design business it’s even easier to get samples. Most companies are very willing to send a few samples if you’re curious about a product and want to check it out before ordering it, and paint companies are one of the best, so with your business you should be able to get anything you could need if you go to their designer sections on their websites or email a local rep. I have contacts for Sherwin and Pittsburg in our region, so let me know if you even want a contact. They both sent me the huge $100 designer sets for free while I was interning, and as I said I’ve ordered countless paint samples. I’ve ordered over 100 8×12 Sherwin color samples sheets at a time. It’s so nice to have a couple of big samples if you’re unsure about a color! Or for clients who can’t make up their minds. 🙂

For real? That’s so awesome! We were not so lucky back when I was in design school. Thanks for the info! Who doesn’t love free stuff?!

As a interior design business owner, you can actually order fan decks, large paint samples (up to notebook size sheets), and even designer color sample boxes for free from their website. You can do the same for Pittsburg Paints or Bengamin Moore or any of the other large manufactures. You just have to give them your business name and info. When I was in design school and waiting for my free fan deck the store even told me I could return one if I bought it after my free one came so if you order and take the new one back to the store, they would probably even give you back the 12 bucks. You don’t have to agree to use their paints or anything, they just like designers having their tools since it means we’re more likely to use their products. Here’s the link to order samples if you’d like to check it out. Pittsburg and Sherwin both have great resources on their websites for designers outside of the samples. I order large samples all the time so I can tape them to the wall and preview colors, and they are usually in my mailbox within 3 or 4 days of ordering them. Here’s a link to the sample ordering page for designers on Sherwin’s site.
