My Unfinished Trinket Box Makeover!

May 13, 2016 by Bethany Sy

You might remember about a month ago, I announced a fun little contest for you my readers! We’ve got a bunch of contestants, and the submissions are rolling in! Everyone is making over these unfinished trinket boxes with their own spin, in hopes of winning 75 cans of different colors of spray paint!!

Tomorrow is the deadline, so I’ll be sharing everyone’s projects next week for you to feast your eyes on. But today? I’m going to show you what I did with mine!

Makeover this Unfinished Trinket Box! SOOOO MANY possible uses! {Reality Daydream}

Obviously, there are SO MANY potential uses for this little organizational wonder. Truthfully I could use one of these in just about every room.

I tossed around soooooo many ideas in my head for how to makeover my unfinished trinket boxes. Paint? Stain? Fabric? Stencil?

I started by lightly sanding everything down and knocking off those rough edges. Then I painted the inside of the ‘bowls’ white… and gathered some pretties, including some vintage wrapping paper and coordinating lace from my extensive lace collection.

I do love the look of plain wood, so I wanted to incorporate a mix of pattern and exposed plywood. So after removing the hardware with a teeny screwdriver, I cut a strip of the wrapping paper to cover the bottom half of the outside of the trinket box, and then brushed on Mod Podge to affix it on.

Then I did the same with my lace and covered the seam!

Then I added some fringe with a hot glue gun for the ultimate ‘Downton Abbey’ look. It’s so feminine and fancy!

I decided to tentatively use this baby in my craft studio to hold some sewing items. It was so fun loading ‘er up!

Once I had everything in there, it seemed like something was missing. So I used my Silhouette Cameo and some leftover chalkboard vinyl to cut me some little chalkboard labels! Aren’t these darling? I can think of a dozen other places in my house that could use some pretty chalkboard labels… hehe! STAY TUNED!

Then I used my chalk marker and labeled each one. So fun and custom!

There she blows! Such a fun little afternoon makeover! And I have a half a mind to order a dozen more of these unfinished trinket boxes. There are just SO many organizational possibilities!

What do you think?! Are you so excited to see what everyone else did to their trinket box? I know I am! Stay tuned, because I’m going to show them all next Monday or Tuesday… depending on my level of ambition over the weekend. In the meantime, make sure you’re hanging out with us over on Facebook and Instagram for lots of design inspiration, behind the scenes activity, and cute pics of my children. #duh
