Linda’s Backsplash

March 14, 2011 by Bethany Sy

Happy Daylight Savings!! Based on my Facebook newsfeed, there are a LOT of people who are not happy about it… losing an hour of sleep and all. But I personally look forward to Springing Forward! For me the most depressing thing about Winter is how it’s dark in the evenings, making me very unproductive and sleepy. And lazy. And now it’s light till 8! Hooray!

On a side note, I’m not sure if  “seasons” should be capitalized. But I did it anyway just to be safe. Don’t judge me, I was homeschooled. Just kidding Mom! You did a great job! I can still say all the Presidents from memory!

Enough chatter, let’s discuss Linda’s kitchen. LOVE how the cabinets go all the way to the ceiling. LOVE that her husband installed under-cabinet-lighting (honey, consider that a hint for Mother’s Day / Birthday options. Or possibly just because you love me and I’m carrying your offspring(s)).

Linda and her hubs, Bob, wanted a unique and custom looking backsplash. They loved the idea of golds and neutrals, but also wanted to incorporate their red accents into the whole look. Noooooo problem!

Girl I accept email instruction! LOL I’ve googled faux stone techniques. Am I on the right track? I’ll just play with it until I feel I’m getting somewhere. My lanlord would love this so that he doesn’t have to wory about the cost of tile and if someone else hates it or ruins it, it’s just paint.

Sommer, we’ve thought about doing a tutorial… but i think we’re going to wait until we’re not using this as a source of income any longer. We don’t want to give away all our secrets just yet!! But I will tell you that it’s pretty darn self explanatory. Get yourself a roll of 1/4 inch tape, and a variety of neutral colored paints!! The most time-consuming part is the measuring/taping.

Oooh I love the different size blocks you did. I wonder… will you ever be showing us your technique or doing some how to’s on the back splashes? I would love to do this in my own kitchen but I have no clue where to start when it comes to faux finishes. And there is crap out there for DIY. lol.
